Hey Shauny!
Maybe you could hint Mod MattHe to do a podcast (youtube vid with a demo could be even better) about JMod/PMod/player events. As an awareness raising campaign of sorts. Perhaps he could invite some of the most active organizers to talk about events.
- How to find info in the first place. Be specific as possible, give examples and encourage to spend time reading the posts to get oriented because events and competitions forum can be a jungle to the first timer not to mention all the fan sites out there.
- How to attend in general (joining fc, instances, coinshare etc.).
- General expectations/rules of conduct (familiars (overrides), cannons, clan avatars, vexillums etc.) if not specifically stated on event description.
- How (massive) boss masses differ from your normal solo / small group fights. The realities of possibility of getting a drop or a kill counter increase, lag and how things usually improve towards end of the event when some of the attendees leave.
- Types of events. Most popular events.
- Well known trusted organizers. Common sense.
- Valid reasons to take part (relax. it's okay to take a break from chasing xp and achievements because...) It's all about...
- Had a bad experience? Don't give up! There will be fun times.
- The art of hosting a successful event and about advertising your own events (encouraging words).
- Valid reasons why there isn't a single "Official Event Calendar" on the front page / companion app / in-game and things are how they are.
- And so on. You know - the works.
Why? Because I believe there is a potential mass of attendees out there whose only source of event info currently is that tiny
i
next to the game clock.
