Hi AN00BIS Pro,

This isn't a high traffic thread. Open forums, being what they are, often don't provide an immediate response to issues. Linux isn't the most popular operating system for playing RuneScape so there are fewer volunteers who can help with Linux. The J-mods usually don't provide support for the game through the forums. You didn't specifically mention which client you're using. This thread is usually for posting about HikariKnight's client launcher. Though people can get help with the NXT client here, too, so it helps to be specific about which client you are using.

You mentioned the file jagexappletviewer.preferences. I think that file is used by HK's client launcher. The only thing I have in my copy of the file in ~/.config/runescape/share/cache is a single line that says
Language=0
Did you try starting the game from Terminal by typing
runescape
? There might be some output in Terminal that will give a clue about the problem. You can copy and paste the output in to this thread if you want me to look at it. Or, if there is a lot of output, like multiple posts, then might be best to use pastebin.com to put the output on the Internet and then you can put a link here to the output on pastebin.

I'm running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit
I got past having errors about not having permission and missing packages. I installed the 32bit libraries. The game shows up, but when I click on the launcher, nothing happens.

I have tried installing the older files, but after unzipping the older linux ones, it doesn't open them in the terminal.

I tried wine. It won't install the latest package. So I went to the earlier one, and it installed. But it loads into a black screen.

Does anyone have any new information on a install that worked for them? My Windows partition is a pain to access.

Hi Mindrop,

I'm confused. Parts of your post seem like you followed instructions for using HikariKnight's client launcher and other parts seem like you're trying to use Jagex's NXT client. What client are you trying to use? Do you know what graphics system you have?

Trying to start the client or clients from Terminal will sometimes give hints about the problem. There might be messages in Terminal. To start HikariKnight's client launcher type
runescape
in Terminal. To start the NXT client type
runescape-launcher
. If there is a lot of output from HikariKnight's client launcher, so much that it takes multiple posts here, then please copy and paste the output to Pastebin.com and post a link to the output at Pastebin.

So, I had uninstalled it. I put the commands in from Jagex's launcher they have. The game installs, but wont open. Typing in "runescape" gives "command not found". Typing in "runsecape-launcher" gives:

/usr/share/games/runescape-launcher/runescape: error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Mindrop,

The NXT client from Jagex was packaged for Ubuntu. Linux Mint is close but not exactly Ubuntu so to make it work in Linux Mint you need to do in Terminal

sudo apt-get install libcurl3

After that is done try running the NXT client again by typing
runescape-launcher
.
