PerduraboCx, I guess you downloaded RSU-linux-x64-installer.run.zip and you can install it with that but don't need to in Linux Mint. Instead open Terminal and copy and paste these two commands in to Terminal one line at a time.
0815, before the RSU client there were some shell scripts that could be used to start the game but I can't find them now. Mentioned at
https://support.runescape.com/hc/en-gb/articles/206659489-Linux-Native-Clients
but no actual script code shown. I thought of the shell scripts because they are probably simpler but I'm not sure about their requirements. The CPAN.org site recommends compiling Perl from source code for UNIX.
Original message details are unavailable.
Requirements/Dependencies (to just run it):
Perl
Perl-modules
Java or OpenJDK
grep
xterm (not needed if run on windows)
wget or curl
p7zip-full OR make, g++ and gcc
Extra Requirements/Dependencies if you want to use the Settings Editor, Updater and Launcher:
wxperl/libwx-perl/perl-wx
Yep, I got all of those. Right now it's pointless troubleshooting since I took my last harddrive apart yesterday, prone for professional disposal.
So I am now using a USB stick to run my OS. Worked pretty smooth, until I reached the 400MB treshold of Jagex cache. Lobby, precaching, rebooting, all the tricks. But I cannot seem to figure that out.
In other words: Thanks! But I don't think I will run the client anytime in the next years. Just wanted to clarify what went wrong. And it seems this will remain the same riddle as why a network card in one slot causes the entire system to crash or why gfx drivers decide not to work but attempt #512 all of a sudden they do (with no changed parameters!).
Thanks again Pinguicula

Anyone know how to solve this? It appears in my terminal after I hit "play now". I'm on Ubuntu 16.04 if it helps.
Error: Could not find or load main class jagexappletviewer
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: jagexappletviewer
[18202:18223:0418/140815.260297:ERROR:browser_gpu_channel_host_factory.cc(119)] Failed to launch GPU process.
Created new window in existing browser session.
There are a couple different Play Now buttons: RS3 page, OldSchool page, and RSU client launcher. I'm not sure which one you are using. Are you trying to start the game in a web browser? After installing a client for the game, if you click the Play Now button in a web browser, then a protocol created by installing the client is used to launch the client. If no client is installed then no protocol is set and the web browser asks you to install the client if you click the Play Now button.
If you want to play the game in a web browser then hover your mouse over Game Guide at the top of this page, click on Download, on the next page scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on
download an old version
of RuneScape. On the next page scroll down and click on
Play in Browser
. You need a web browser that still supports the Java plugin, like Firefox ESR, and Java for this to work. Regular Firefox no longer supports the Java plugin.
If you do have a client installed (NXT in this case) then sometimes the protocol stops working and the easiest way to fix it is to reinstall the client.
