I had the same issue.. I uninstalled the latest java and installed the older version posted above and it's working. Thanks a bunch!

Just adding that the only way I was able to make java and the osrs vanilla client work was by using the above solution. Jagex really needs to fix this issue, especially since the website is directing people to download the latest version of java which doesn't work with the client on a mac.

Gonna add here as well - this solution worked (tysm @ythaar-mej), however I also had to re-install runelite. I ran into this issue specifically after moving my account over to the jagex account beta, so I was basically just unable to play osrs on my 2022 macbook until I found this thread...def feels like a high severity issue that should be fixed as part of the beta rollout of jagex accounts
