For the OP, and anyone else having similar issues with game crashes:

I began experiencing problems with RS3 freezing and crashing roughly a year ago. For me, it started during the 2022 Beach event. Sometimes, it would happen randomly, but other times it would happen when I entered certain areas of the game 100% of the time.

What would happen to me was one of two things: either my RS client would instantly close without warning, or my game would completely freeze (forcing me to X out my client and relaunch it). I run Windows 10 on Desktop. I do not even own a mobile phone.

As you may have guessed, clearing my cache had no effect. My drivers are always up-to-date.

I was able to avoid further game crashes/freezes by opening my RS client in Compatibility Mode. This can be done by left-clicking the word "RuneScape" in the top-left corner of the log-in screen. You're not looking for the "RuneScape" with the logo to the left of the name - click the word "RuneScape" below that one to get a short menu. Click Options to bring up the interface where you can choose to run RS in either of the Normal Modes or in Compatibility Mode. Once you have okayed this change, you'll have to close the client. Then when you open it back up, it'll be in Compatibility Mode. Log in as usual, and you should be able to play RS without the annoying crashes.

Yes, CM can be laggy, especially when you first log in, but it usually resolves pretty quickly and is quite playable. It may not be perfect, but over the past year the game hasn't crashed or frozen on me at all while in Compatibility Mode.

It works for me. It might work for you. Note that I do not play OSRS, nor do I use the new Jagex Launcher. If you do, and CM does not help your situation, you most likely have other issues I am not familiar with.

Good luck and happy 'Scaping!

If you have an AMD CPU, here's a tip someone posted in a similar thread here:

Rolled my drivers back to 22.5.1 instead of 22.11.1, that was the issue for some reason

I'm curious who's fault that AMD graphics driver issue is. I know AMD did the driver change with 22.5.2, but for it to be broken still over a year later is either great incompetence on AMD's part (they've been aware, have bug reports, and aren't shy about game-specific fixes), or it requires a client-side change on Jagex's part that oddly doesn't affect any other OS or vendor (maybe they have an old workaround for AMD specifically).

I've ran into RS3 crashes personally on Windows with a 6600 XT and all drivers 22.5.2+. No problems on Linux though with Mesa with native and Proton RS3, and even Zink for Vulkan :p

I recommend 22.2.3 drivers if you do anything involving GPU video encoding like streaming, especially PCVR. They also work fine for RS3.

Maybe a couple of months back the game crashed while I was doing the Border Quest and I lost my Diary and Spaniel Speak Amulet. I have not been able to finish the quest, without the amulet, and therefore cannot take part in the new woodcutting area. I've posted this problem more than once and have never received a reply or suggestion on what to do. At this point I'm going assume that Jagex does not care about their subscribers, and they don't see any need to helps us. Hopefully there are not too many others with this problem because it really sucks!
