Came back from a lengthy break of about 4 years to find my long term account has been banned for major macroing, allegedly. Not a hack, my account has always been perfectly secure. I’ve looked online, apparently this is a common issue, a lot of old players are coming back and finding this has happened seemingly out of nowhere.

I’m an old player, I know Jagex has a stubborn reputation, they like to think their systems are absolute, anyone with any prior knowledge of this game at all knows that’s never been the case. But I’m not ranting about my account being locked so much as putting this out there for pure awareness.

Maybe this thread will be locked or deleted by a mod, that’s fine. Before you do that though I would suggest maybe this warrants looking into. If Jagex has any interest at all in maintaining a solid playerbase, this is kind of a big deal. Scaring old players away.

nothing is perfectly secure unfortunately. absolutely nothing. its definitely not secure if you leave for 4 years, that is not perfectly secure at all, as many features rely on you logging in or atleast attempting to log in

Has your account been locked or banned? You mention both in your opening post but locked and banned are two different things on this website.
If you appeal the ban and the ban is removed, Jagex might then lock your account if they can see it is still insecure.

If you know you didn't break the rules then you have to assume that a hijacker has had access.

It is concerning that the account became insecure during your four year absence. How did a hijacker even discover the account if you weren't using it?
You should investigate the security of your email as it may also be insecure.
Our emails hold the front door keys to our RuneScape accounts.
If a hijacker gets into your email they can discover and access your RuneScape account.
I recommend you change the password to your email and set up 2-step verification on it to prevent unauthorised access.

2-Tron has linked the offence appeal instructions. I recommend you submit an appeal.
You want the ban looked into? Appeal.

I also recommend you work through the instructions on the Security tips support page. Those instructions are very thorough.
