The soul of OSRS was in its low-graphics and its grind (not talking RSclassic levels though; I'm no machine...) - forcing you to work hard to become something from nothing.
Negating those elements (and hence venturing towards RS3) only pulls our sweet little game into a frankly embarrassing wannabe replica of WoW...
I quit when RS3 came about, because I didn't want to be forced into playing WoW.
I started again when OSRS came about, because I wanted to play RS.
As long as the things that are the lifeblood of this game remain, any update is a good update, be it an entirely new skill (although not dungeoneering, and CERTAINLY not summoning - which again, took a LOT of the grind out of RS, and so frankly ruined the game for me), an entirely new continent (which I'm very excited about btw, and hope a LOT of effort goes in to, in order to ensure that it is done as well as can be possibly done - this update has so so so much potential, and it'd be a travesty if it was done poorly, and nobody ends up really using it), or a whole new load of lore (because let's face it, quest capes are becoming ever more common; we really do need quite a few new quests, and an uber-elite masterquest would be really cool too).
I'd have to agree though: as popular as slayer is, it has had a lot of love recently, and other skills (in particular firemaking, because I mean seriously what is the point of training above 60?) really need some attention right now too.
Also imo there have been more than enough boss updates recently, and particularly with the ongoing progress of Corp, I really don't think we need more yet. That said, I like the ideas stated by people previously in this thread: a new boss on the new continent, and a co-opable boss in slayer, who you have to pay points to come up against.
Thanks,
Kempo.
EDIT: Oh, and as somebody else has mentioned: a quality of life update so that left clicking a full pouch empties it, would be so nice. Please consider adding that, Jagex.
