I R a bit torn on the randoms. It can be very annoying to be whisked away by Graveyard Pete when you've spent time and food living through the aggression phase of the trolls at say Death Plateau only to be returned as the target for any nearby troll, or worse the thrower trolls.

On the other hand, who of us hasn't watched in glee as some puir wee AFKer gets hit/loses their equipment/gets teleported by a random at Catherby, it is one of the bright points in the drudgery of fishing...

Certainly those randoms that interrupt combat are an annoyance, and if randoms still have a value, it is only to keep those that AFK on their toes.

Ya you can AFK and do something else, at the risk of your character! It's a nice trade-off I feel. I'm conflicted about randoms :/

Puts on tin foil hat, and also conspiracy overcoat...mmm cozy:

Perhaps the gold farmers out there are worried that if you remove randoms, average joe scripts might allow players to be:

1. In direct competition with them, by selling resources.
2. Make so much money-that they don't need to buy gold farmer's gold.

There's always some financial angle. Typical people really enjoy molly, drill sergeant, and gravedigger? I really doubt it. I think the gold farmers are just getting nervous for their hoards of bots when average joe can make simple scripts to compete.

Some players might even purchase bot programs, but if randoms are removed, those bot makers won't be making any more money-or have the ability to steal accounts.

I told you I was wearing my tin-foil hat.

When I take it off like this-*rustling sounds*, I trust everything around me instantly!!!

See, all better. Everything in the game is a-ok, there is no one doing anything sneaky or suspicious anywhere, everyone plays by the rules, and votes in polls honestly, with no thoughts of irl profits from rs!

I just want to teleport in peace. I just don't get why I can't do that-
all you no-voters!!!??
When I click teleport-I wish to go to my destination, not get nailed by a random EVERY...LAST...TIME!!! Arrgh, so mad.

don't get rid of any random events, that what makes Runescape what it is, including the bad random events, if you get rid of them the game wont be the same and will go downhill, there's still a lot of people that like the random events that attack you, and i'm one of them

From what I've seen in this thread, I actually do think you should separate out two questions.

First question: Should we remove all aggressive random events (where you could run away from them, or talk to them)?

Second question: Should we remove 'longer' random events per the development blog (where randoms like molly, maze, and gravedigger etc. would be OPTIONAL).

I HATE the longer random events, especially considering they have HORRIBLE rewards for the time you are forced to endure them. Aggressive randoms were actually fun sometimes-especially the ones like Tree Spirit or Golem, where you could fight them.

I think you could actually KEEP the aggressive randoms, and just add really great rewards to them.

Or even keep the longer ones, but MAKE THEM WORTH MY TIME PLEASE!!!???

I don't want to go through the drill sergeant and merely get 500 gold! That is so irritating. The maze could even use better rewards believe it or not. Or go through the quiz show just to get 1 onion or 1k gold. Hurray! That might have been a nice reward the very first two days I played rs, but it is so tiny otherwise.

How about put a random chance of getting guthan's armor in the randoms. Then I will do them for sure HAPPILY! Make real rewards!

Some other ideas for random rewards:

Massive Pouch (level 99 rc required):
Holds 100 pure essense-making rc extra profitable-as it should be.

Cloak of invisibility:
(allows you to be invisible in the wild for exactly 10 seconds)-good for abyss runs (but won't help a whole lot for pkers).

Ring of massive wealth:
Expands drops from monsters a ton-especially slayer monsters.

Dagger of um, stuff-good for um, stabbing things really hard.

Idk, there's so many creative rewards I could think of that might be more useful than 500 gold, or the chance of 1 diamond. You need me to think of more? I could come up with an entire list of fun rewards.

I would gladly do the long randoms for nice useful items in the game!

Frog Tokens
...get 200 of them to become completely 'amphibious' and able to travel to a brand new island with awesome resources. I can think of the rewards all day.

Mime random reward
, transform into any npc monster-and able to use their attacks against other monsters. Complete at least 30 times.

Gravedigger
: Gain the ability to visit his special cemetery-for even better prayer xp than gilded altars. You need to complete the random quite a few times for this (let's say 30), meaning you also have to bury quite a few bones by hand.

Poll Question: Should we keep random events, but make the rewards VERY VERY good?

I suppose this question would fail-by the same people who insist on keeping the long randoms. :( Nothing can change in the game-says them, no matter how irritating randoms can be, or how useful the rewards could be.

If I get stuck in the teleportation matrix, please give me 100 laws, not just 1. It is so crappy.

I'd prefer that we keep the aggressive randoms that can be killed for their drops, but instead make them unaggressive. In other words, make it so when they appear, they don't immediately attack, but instead taunt you (by name) and only attack after you've initiated them in combat. If ignored, they'll give up and disappear. This way those of us who like to fight them can, and those who don't aren't in danger of dying and losing their party hats or whatever while fishing.

It would be sad to see bubbly rocks, and trees that hit back be gone for good, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for the convenience of the players. I'd still like to see the abyssal network stay, if possible.

P.S. Did you forget about Dr. Jekyll?

I'm sorry to say that I'd have to give your suggestions for improved rewards a big thumbs down. Randoms are far too common for the rewards you suggest to be reasonable. If we got 100 laws from the abyssal network random, then we'd never run out, and there'd be no market for laws anymore.

I honestly think that the current rewards are very reasonable, and in some cases, very generous. Over 300 chaos runes just for traversing a maze? Dragons bones just for killing a zombie? 5-20k worth of gems just for identifying molly's twin? If these events were grindable, people would do them all the time! I'd be willing to bet that randoms are the leading source of gems in the game!
I don't think rewards are the problem with randoms. It's the unplanned interruption that annoys people, and the threat of aggressive monsters that scares them. Simply make all randoms optional, even the aggressive ones, and there will be no problem.
