First of all, great to see new idea's opening the pvp discussion.

Alternative accounts
The charm of pvp, besides trying to make profit ofcourse, is to put account builds to the test. Many veteran players have encountered stronger opponents at some point, had a taste of their strength and ended up learning from it, motivating them to improve their own account or to start a new one from scratch all together. It makes people play the game, and makes people care about their character progression. In my opinion its the sole reason why the pvp community has become so competiteve.

Alternative accounts(presets) removes all of that, and most importandly removes alot of freedom. It makes players care less about their own build, and be able to pvp either way. It feels less rewarding, less unique and takes a whole chunk out of the freedom/variety I as a player enjoy so much about runescape. Last man standing sometimes makes me even feel like im playing on a private server!

Proposal
While understanding pvp needs to be more open for new players, i would rather focus on the ranking system itself. I would propose players to be able to use their own accounts(atleast their stats) in the pvp arena. They could be placed into brackets, matching combat levels closer then they have been ever before. As an example people could be placed within 5 combat levels from eachother? The win/loss rate is what should place people at specific ranks.

Why limit the pvp arena to 1v1? Why not create more, freedom/variety, by adding 2v2, 3v3 5v5 and 10 vs 10? It could certainly be pvp heaven!

I have a few more idea's but ill leave them for later.

With the arena system, wouldn't it be fair to have still some reward net for unranked skirmishes?

If it's randomised then boosting wouldn't be a problem.

Some of the others have said it very well, the build/use of your pvp account is part of the fun. The variety of different builds going up against each other with different strengths. (yes we pick on lower strength, sometimes we get picked on by another build). A lot of new rewards is just baby gating the work that's put into a good build. When people say the barrier of entry to pvp is too high, they don't mean take away the work of putting in an account, they mean the skill set of actual pvp (some of the things like resizing spellbook you have polled in the past but failed would have actually helped with that). As far as i know, no1 ever 'pot blocks' themselves in a pvm situation and dies because of it, so theres many new mechanics like that to learn and pick up on to be a good pvper.

*We're never getting back to the days of just mainhanding a godsword hoping you hit 3 40s in a row so your opponent cant out eat it, and if they tele no one will fight them again, sorry*

We would also like clarification on why the pvp arena seems to be based off a style of pking that doesn't currently exist in game?

Would love new people on the pvp scene, don't mind updates to benefit them, but this only prepares them with confidence to come out and die, thinking 'oh i've got this' because they were prepared for a non existent form of pvp (no you won't change the meta people will still either nh or veng)

On another note why was the pj timer beta tested then just never to be heard from again? we know your planning on wildy updates near may, but why do we need a 6 month wait on something that's been tested? If it didn't work out you could at least let the pvp community know so we don't keep our hopes up.

Is entrance spamming ever going to be addressed? There are plenty of ways to escape without this annoying mechanic built entirely around better ping than the other person.

This is an interesting proposal. There are some good elements to it, some not so good and some confusing.

Lets start with the good. I think having a minigame where you can fight other players in a safe environment is a good replacement for the duel arena. That is always how I saw the duel arena but it's unfortunate it got a little gambly.

I'm on the fence about having to choose a build. I think it's good to create a level playing ground where players can practise pvp however it's the antithesis of progression in the game. Can there be an option to fight with your own stats? Could you add more variety of builds such as Pure, Max, Zerker, etc?

Similarly with the rewards, they are all better versions of existing items used a lot in pvp. At first this seems fair but then you realise it removes the need to play the rest of the game which is insulting to those that have invested time into creating these builds right now.
I do not think these rewards are good, however perhaps items to upgrade the pre-existing items into these could be better.

Finally I don't understand why this minigame needs a separate world for the actual duels. Can't this work like other minigames, with a set world and the ability to start a fight with either player interactions or lobbys?

Overall I'd say this idea is a little overengineered and focuses too much on the rewards, which is unfortunately a common theme for updates these days.
I hope you take your time, make changes and poll all of this update otherwise I don't expect this to go down too well.

I just hope this isnt an intended solution to fix the pvp problem of osrs. It could be a cool "ADDITION" to the game. However, I do believe this could become an unpopular and potentially dead piece of content limited to only a small portion of the pvp community. It may even make the wilderness and pvp worlds even more dead.

The fun aspect of pvp in runescape is the unpredictable nature of what you may encounter in the wilderness or pvp worlds. I believe the psychological nature of pvp should be considered when trying to find content that will motivate players to get involved. If anyone has ever heard of reinforcement schedules, you'd understand that this game relies heavily on them.

Think of a pokie machine. We rely on random number generators to provide ourselves with rewards in this game majority of the time. Some of the most enjoyable bosses are those that drop an expensive item at an unpredictable time. This also applies to pvp.

Roaming the wilderness or a pvp world not knowing when you will encounter a juicy loot pig is what motivates some people to start pking in the wilderness. This starts the cycle of players trying to pk the player that is trying to pk pvmers and skillers ect. THIS IS HOW TO FIX THE WILDERNESS AND PVP WORLDS.

A duel arena does not have this element of pvp at all. The reward system is fixed and the fights will be also (same cb stats and gear vs same cb stats n gear). Now there will be some players who enjoy the competetive nature of this arena. But this will be a very small portion of the community. But even they will not want to duel other players for hours on end. Perhaps a 5v5 will inhibit the variability needed to make this arena "FUN" by having randomized teams ect.

I may be a biased psychology graduate but regardless, I have a credible point.
On a side note, I would like to see pvm content in the wilderness that players would need to complete that encourage high risk = high reward. All wildy content should be that

Grouping players by their rank is a good idea. The 2008-style tournaments also sound fun. However, I'm not a fan of the "maxed stats on separate server" type of thing. Just make sure deaths are safe and people are paired with someone of similar stats (like FoG does... but better) and that should be fine. Bizarre Boron Fusswell, scryer extraordinaire. OSRS: POH ideas & RS3 minigames & achievement ideas !

Perhaps you're half right; perhaps we can't win. But we can fight.

Honestly, few issues with this suggestion.

For starters the name is silly. Might aswell keep it the duel arena.

2nd- alot of the rewards such as the bracelet devalues the barrows gloves. Not a huge fan of this.

Lastly the pre set brackets do not reflect the pvp community. Those pre set stats are not found on any pvp builds. Having a instance or separate server for this pvp arena is unnecessary.

Suggestion: keep it the same add a tournament option with different rewards. Possibly a 32 person style tournament . Dont over complicate things with PVP and ask the pk community for assistance.

I'm personally not a fan of the barrow gloves and fighter torso replacements. In the previous Q&A, all the mods agreed on "If you want the rewards, do the content". They would be BIS for every pure because all they do is PK, there would be no point to even get mithril gloves.
