In my opinion(which is what this whole post is), the S.O.L will not be overpowered at all, the 15% damage boost is a fair trade-off for 75 attack. Almost all people inside the wilderness are a generic copy of a pure, we need some sort of incentive for players to continue playing and training. If your 're worried it will be too overpowered for your maxed zerker to handle then train some defense. As far as the other content goes, personally i'm sick of people complaining about the "over-complication" issue. Many of the people I play Oldschool with came for the combat system, not because we wanted to have our own private server feel. Stop vetoing content for other players because you don't personally understand what all the numbers mean. Do some research then make your decision, I honestly believe the only way to keep Oldschool RS alive is to release content that influences players to raise stats.

PS-Making content decisions based on the value of a particular item fluctuating. Sad.

okay you guys that are against the imbued rings are clearly not thinking this throroughly... the rings are meant to be used for PVMers.. not PKers. how will it be overpowered for PVMers?? were fighting bosses. there will not be anyone pking with imbued rings so please, take that stuff elsewhere.

I can't find anything that says the imbued rings are strictly for PVMers in the Dev blog. Where does it say pkers won't benefit from this?

Not talking about sol or arma cbow, but I was a HUGE fan of things such as how armadyl staff works. The whole, you have to kill a certain boss and collect untradeable items to make one. I'm a fan of making money less important and time and effort congratulated. Just my two cents.

In response to T4nk3rlife's idea,
I agree, but I would limit it to all PVM situations, or maybe we should ask for a world based PVP that strictly keeps the items allowed to be used to a 2007 based list?. In other words 2 types of PVP;

Situation 1: The wilderness, all items currently released can be used here.

Situation 2: A limited area type scenario where only items released in 2007 can be used and the area where one could travel would be limited to a specified world, or mini-game kind of area. This would be ideal for the pures and other strictly PVP players who do not want to advance their stats in RS any more yet want to get that Oldschool PVP feel without limiting the true games content.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm wondering if there are any plans to allow magic to be viable in terms of high level pvm? (bossing and the like)

I know pre eoc magic was only good in certain instances, and those instances were mainly because of specific buffs given to magic for killing said monster. (Ice strykewyrms, glacors.)

My biggest problem with OSRS (and the reason why I don't really play it) is because magic has no place at all in the high end pvm world. Bosses always have absurdly high magic defense, and magic robes never give a decent amount of defense over all. (unless you count magic defense)

I know for a fact that Zilyanna was absurdly difficult to solo with magic just before the EoC was launched. Despite the fact that I had a +163 magic attack bonus, I would splash about 70% of the time. If not more. And I know for a fact that the highest magic attack bonus in OSRS is lower than that. (163 was only -1 off the highest bonus, i wore ragefire boots instead of virtus)

Will this be looked at in a future poll perhaps?

Would the S.O.L special be of any use? Giving it a 15% damage boost and the special halving all melee damage could be fairly useful if combined with a high end shield. That and maybe introduce some new spells that act like the steel skin prayer? These are just ideas on my part, if a few people continue these ideas i'll start another thread so we can brainstorm some content that pleases across the board.

Unfortunately not. That would be 1 minute every 5 minutes where you take half melee damage. I'm quite sure that would help, but it wouldn't be enough. You'd never be able to actually hit the bosses in that one minute because you'd just continually miss. Magic's problem isn't defensive capabilities, its both offense and defense. While I think a mage armour like spell would be effective, there would have to be a balance with it. Something to make it useless to those who melee/range. Also, what spell book would you put it on? Fire wave would be useless for bossing, even with a SoL (Fear my 23 max hit!) While the ancient magics are too expensive to be used effectively.

As for using a good shield. There is no good mage shield. I'd say most of the shields in game have magic attack bonuses that are unscaled to magic. Magic's most accurate weapon gives a grand total of 20 magic attack...That is double the Dragonfire shield's magic attack value, which is in the negatives. Also, if you use a shield, you lose the ability to use the mages' book. That is another -15 gone. so if you use a dfs, a crystal shield, or any other high level shield. You'll lose well over 20 potential magic attack bonus.

Combine all of this with the fact that you are forced to risk large amounts of runes because there is no "free" or "pre-charged" spells, then you can see that magic just isn't worth using currently.
