I think most of the people playing 2007 version of the game are here simply because they cannot stand EoC and SoF-infested Runescape.
Those changes basically turned the game we used to play into something very different and very little connected to the real spirit of Runescape, as it was - a place where everyone had equal chances, a place where you had to work for your gains, and not pay to get experience, items, resources and so on.
What Jagex (or post-Gower Jagex) brought into the game is not much different from what gold/item sellers are doing when they sell over the internet what their bots are farming into the game (could this be a reason for keeping bots into the game, and only talking about the miraculous anti-bot technology which, by the way, doesn't do anything, since the same bots reported months ago are still botting? Might be some gold-selling sites sharing their profits with Jagex? has Lee Harvey Oswald killed Kennedy?).
And again, I think most of the people in 2007 would be very very happy if they had the chance to play again Runescape as it was before SoF, Solomon, EoC, Gerhard, IVP Investors ...
Armours look just fine now, we don't have to spin anything, challenges are resuming to face the almighty Jad. Maybe we don't have the nice look we had prior to summer of 2012, but we don't have ape-looking avatars either, nor emotes with miners bravely hitting rocks with their ... uhm ... heads ...
So ... updates most of us enjoyed over time - like tabbed banks, searching banks, resting, diaries, summoning - would not necessarily ruin the game, as long as its original spirit wouldn't be twisted again ... same for HD, resizeable screen, removing roofs, door closing in farming shop, where the Master Farmer used to be trapped by players, some quests and, if I don't go too far, GWD (last one arguable).
Oh! By the way! Back in 2007, Runescape had Andrew Gower!!
