Bounty Hunter

Last week's Bounty Hunter developer blog gave us a great amount of insight into what it is that you want from Bounty Hunter and the feedback gave us a good idea of how we should be implementing it.

This is a run-down of how we see Bounty Hunter fitting into Old School after hearing what you had to say.

Here are a few of the main points we picked up on.

  • A reasonably overwhelming majority feel that the mechanics of BH being implemented into existing PvP areas in some way would be more suited to Old School rather than an entirely separate minigame or worlds
  • Players would like to see mechanics available in the existing wilderness on set worlds
  • Players like the idea of a minimum risk in order to take part

Implementation
4 worlds would have Bounty Hunter mechanics added to the wilderness, 3 being members and 1 being Free to Play. This leaves the existing PvP environments as they are while allowing people to come to the Bounty Hunter worlds for some slightly different gameplay.

Taking part in the Bounty Hunter activity is optional, however the wilderness on Bounty Hunter worlds will have some restrictions such as a minimum risk to be able to enter the wilderness.

Being assigned a target
In order to be assigned a target a player must be in the wilderness for at least 10 minutes.

Entering the wilderness
In order to make sure that the players being hunted are nice and rewarding players will have to risk at least 50k in alch value in order to enter the wilderness on a Bounty Hunter world.

Killing your target
Once you have been assigned a player to take out you will see an arrow on the minimap pointing to their location for as long as they are in the wilderness. In addition to this Bounty Hunters will be able to see a coloured skull above their target's head that gives an idea of how much they are risking.

Anyone willing to take on the challenge of hunting a player down will have access to the spell Teleport to Target which will teleport them directly to the player they are tasked to kill. This would be a great way to surprise your target and catch them off-guard.

For every target that you kill you will receive an added point to your Bounty Hunter Rating. In the future we hope to release a Bounty Hunter Rating section to the Old School hiscores, however this will not be possible alongside the initial release of Bounty Hunter.

You Decide
The poll tomorrow will include a number of questions about Bounty Hunter so it is, as usual, up to you to decide whether or not Bounty Hunter is something you wish to see in game.

After reading this... erm, short blog I have a few questions.

1) Why add the teleport to target spell? This reduces the risk to the hunter, if you're giving someone the ability to teleport across the whole Wilderness, straight to their target what risk do they have other than their target fight? I feel to add a bit more risk to the whole thing, having players track you down on-foot across the Wilderness would be a lot better. Adding activity to all parts of the Wilderness as hunters will be walking everywhere.

2) Having to pay 10k for a target? Why? Surely having players actually having to stand in the Wilderness would be better for activity overall, much like before when you would be assigned a target after spending time in the BH world/Wilderness.

3) Will the targets be the same? So e.g: If I get a target called 'A' will his target be myself as well? If so how will pjing be combated? This was hugely abused in single where you could force a 2v1 situation and many people disliked this. Will this be fixed?

4) What rewards would a bounty hunter receive other than loot for killing his target? If you spend 15-30 min's hunting your target and a couple 100k on supplies just to kill him for some basic items (50k alch isn't that much), are you planning to add a reward shop for players to spend their bounty hunter points in? For things such as raw supplies e.g: raw sharks, potion ingredients, tanned hides, uncut gems, etc.

5) Do people get each other as target? Or does person A gets person B as target, while person B gets person C. I think the latter would be more interesting. In the first case, when you get assigned a well known PKer as your target would probably stay in edge and beg for a dds dm rather than go and fight him. Especially if he has a big team and can see you coming via the arrow. But if he doesn't know you are his target you could scout him to see if he is solo and decide to sneak up on him. Or would that be an unfair advantage for the bounty hunter?

To many BH worlds. Limit it to 1 or 2. The community isn't big enough to have 3 worlds. PvP worlds need to be thriving. Not have 10 people in each world.

Also... PLEASE REMOVE PVP WORLDS. They just keep the pvp community divided. Wilderness only with 1 or 2 BH worlds. Please and thank you.

Too many worlds, can we have 1 or 2 p2p pls and 1 ftp?

No paying for target please you get one no matter what based on time?

Bring back EP and add unique drops to pks based on EP ESPECIALLY brawlers and encourage people to skill on BH worlds. It's so much fun when you can go to obscure places on BH worlds and find people EPin.

No teleport to target pls.
