Don't get me wrong Librarian, I fully support them offering what we got the votes for.. a game with no updates.. no dev team.. well, you know.
I just don't see them being willing to suffer the ridicule that would surely follow. The embarrassment of a fair few willing to start over and wanting no updates would make them look like every update they've done was nothing more than what the company wanted.
It isn't about them being willing to cater to ALL of their players.. they've shown time and again that their interest is in catering to the largest and/or the loudest (and honestly, most of us who wanted the game we got the votes for.. a stagnant server.. are already gone anyway).
Sure, one would think that it would be more beneficial for them to receive funds from people who don't currently pay.. but they also need to look at how the general populous (gamers as an entire group) would view them as devs..
They aren't looking for 'cornering markets' now (and they once did corner the market). What they appear to be looking for is the fastest cash, from the most amount of people, for the most amount of time possible.
We all know the 'final' result I'm afraid. So maybe it wouldn't be better for them to get money from a few hundred/thousand if the trade off was the rest of the gaming world looking down on them forever.
