So the problem here is that you can't fully detect bots? How could grouping them in another world help this problem? Even if you investigate closely you won't be able to know if it's a real player or not. If it's possible to 100% detect bots you should ban them instantly instead of this grouping.

So not rolled out til thursday? So is this 'oldschool## a .runescape.*** I'm seeing in the url a part of that update, or am I playing on a different game now?

Did I get hijacked without my knowledge?

Or is this 'a' part of your plan and nothing to worry about?

If they group players that they believe to be bots into one world, its easier to monitor them. They can detect when an account is being played using a script, aka bot.

I'm looking forward to being able to convert all my wealth on RS3 into coins, and then transfer it to OldSchool. This won't be abused as we'll only be able to use this method once.

This new method should only be accessible to players who have quit RS3 completely, and only after you identify for sure they have no intentions to come back to RS3.

Seems fair enough to me.

If they could detect when an account is being played with a script aka bot, then why even make these worlds?

Hell if i know... Thats just what they've always said. I'm assuming its because people are making bots smarter to act like real people.

I imagine they have to quite heavily monitor these accounts to be able to be 100% sure it's a bot. They can't do this on all worlds at the same time, as that would require too much resources.
So instead they monitor all accounts much more lightly and move all the suspicious accounts to a specific world. A world where they can then heavily monitor all accounts, since there aren't that many accounts on it.
You will never get anything for free. Anyone claiming that is trying to scam, lure or hijack you.

This is an odd countermeasure for bots, but a very creative one, I hope it works.

It's a shame that this doesn't target merchant bots and autospammers though, I personally believe when people are complaining about bots there's a good chance they're citing those guys as the main problem. I get that you guys think that the problem with autotypers is rooted in the trade system almost requiring them to be sufficient, and that's true.

However, a good number of these bots aren't spamming because of the trade system, such as the gold-farming and RWT site spamming bots you find in Varrock often or the FC advertisers in Lumby. I wish these would get caught by the system, I get why you wouldn't want to send anyone using an autotyper but these guys are different, they're just as annoying as green dragon bots and the like.

I'm guessing there isn't a way to differentiate between merchant bots (the ones that do dealings in W1/2) vs. the accounts that are specifically for spamming their advertisements with autotypers, but I wish there were.

(And this is the reason so many people seem to want more P-Mods in OSRS, it's not that they fix the problem but they do give a bit of relief)
