HOW about endurance as the new skill which will help you run longer and hit a little faster according to level. Would also decrease wait time for special attacks and how fast you can plant and farm stuff as long as a skill bonus in agility per level.

"So, how do you design a new skill? The first thing to think about is originality, the community would love to see something unique and really special. Forget about Summoning, Divination or Sailing - be completely original.
"

That's odd.. i thought it was the community who gets to choose what we want in game. why can't we think of reinventing sailing/summoning as a skill? it won't necessarily be any worse than an entirely "original" skill.

It will be 75% of those that vote and there will be a yes/no vote. The same as has always happened.

I will be voting no for the skill when it is polled, I just don't see the point in adding a new skill to a game that is only 1 year old and only have 9 maxed players.

Would be nice to see what ideas people come up with though.

How many people are maxed isn't something that matters with a new skill, people should go back and see how many people were maxed in 04, 05, 06 etc when new skills were added and count how many people were maxed.

And a year is plenty of time, I guess people forget that back before 07 there was at least 1, usually 2 new skills every year after rs2 came out. A year is plenty of time.

New skill, why?????

I left Runescape because of all the way everything had changed so much. I only started to play again at the end January 2014, when I found out about Old School.

How can you call it 2007 if you are going to keep adding so many different new things to the game? We DON'T want new skills added. If that's what you want, play EOC.

I have played Runescape since 2006 and was sooooooooooo delighted to discover my game back the way I first remember it.

If you change it like this, you will lose many players, for good this time.

Make as many mini games as you want, just don't add any more skills PLEASE :(

Agreed. Aside from being completely unnecessary, a new skill would really kill the old school aspect even more than the typical game update would. Just make new minigames and improve existing content if you're going to do this >_>

I think it would make more sense to let the community decide if we want a new skill at all before gathering design ideas and wasting those peoples time.

The reason we are talking about a new skill is because the community voted it as the third most important update after bank tabs and the trading solution in the survey we held back in April. As such it is something we have to act on. If you, or any others don't want a new skill you will have your chance to vote for that option.

Mat.

How complex can the new skill be? I have a really great idea but it is very complex. What is possible in terms of complexity?

Mounts/Herding could be cool.
They could have different applications, being skilling, transportation, or combat related mount types. A lot of MMOs have mounts and they work great, The distingushing thing out RS mounts would be they're different applications.
You could obtain different mounts by different activities, Like a dragon mount would come from a dragon egg (Dropped by dragons at different rates depending on the dragon egg/type) or a Wolf from hunting or even a Giant Wombat from a wombat egg in a bird's nest.
The possibilities seem endless with this sort of skill. Would be greatly interdependent on other skills.
Downside is that it would be a MAJOR game changer. Idk, I think it could work though.

Pretty much this. I don't quite understand why so many people associate a new skill with being max leveled. I'm fairly certain there isn't anyone forcing you to partake in what the new skill has to offer. Also, I find it rather appalling that so many people aren't willing to allow this game to develop into what SHOULD have been the TRUE runescape, rather than just let it become stagnant as time goes by. Don't forget we're the ones deciding what gets made, not Jagex.

It also seems a bit rash to immediately decide against it before even seeing what will be offered. In fact, it almost correlates perfectly to people who opposed Oldschool in the first place, but I guess people are entitled to their opinions so there isn't much that can be done.

Happy Scapeing everyone :)
