Continued from my previous post..
Other issues that we may want to be looking at:
Polling system:
The quasi-democratic polling system in OSRS has both benefits and drawbacks. We reduce the probability of "overpowered" or undesirable content entering the game, but we also stifle future updates. Some questions should not be polled in my opinion, especially some of the smaller QOL and graphical changes (like the female Armadyl Helmet and Iban's staff message). Perhaps the polling system should be reserved for "major" content, and we should be able to trust Jagex with smaller updates that won't affect the game as much?
I'm also unsure how I feel about all votes being equal, but that is a matter for another thread.
Item sinks:
OSRS lacks item sinks and long-term, this will prove detrimental to the game economy. I believe that we should be considering introducing more item sinks into the game, especially for higher-tier items. So few of these leave the game that eventually a surplus will develop, depreciating their price in the process. We need an item sink more than an additional gold sink if the economy is to thrive for years to come. Examples such as the whip being consumed by the Kraken tentacle to create a stronger version of the whip are highly effective at maintaining prices (whip is 2.5m+). I'd like to see more of these for other items.
Skill bias:
Due to the way that the OSRS survey/polling system works, popular skills will invariably receive more attention than unpopular ones. The emphasis on Slayer updates is an example of this. However, there are flaws with such an approach. By only focusing on the currently popular skills, the unpopular skills remain unpopular indefinitely. Offering small reworks/incentives for more skills would give players additional incentive to train them beyond the minimum level for quests/diaries.
These are my primary concerns in regards to game integrity and the future of OSRS.
