Over the last week we asked you to send us what XP you were getting in Nighmare Zone and how it compared to other combat training activities. When looking at when the XP rates we weren't looking for what the maximum possible XP rate was, but rather what was the top rate of XP that the majority of players were getting. In every activity there are some players that are more efficient than others and we felt it wasn't fair to base XP rates on what the few but most efficient players were able to achieve. So, here are the XP rates that we gathered.
Magic
Nightmare Zone 160k XP per hour
Nightmare Zone (AFK) 160k XP per hour
Burtsting Monkeys 150k XP per hour
Melee
Nightmare Zone 105k XP per hour
Nightmare Zone (AFK) 100k XP per hour
Melee Bandits (AFK) 70k XP per hour
As you can see the XP rates are certainly comparable with the XP you can get in other places. However, one big difference is the cost of getting this XP, especially magic. When bursting monkeys you told us it is costing you around 150k gp an hour, in Nightmare Zone it is costing you nothing. The impact of training magic without the need to create runes is hitting the runecrafting market considerably, this is something that we must look at as a priority. We would like to change Nightmare Zone so you only get XP for magic if you bring your own runes in with you. This will allow you to continue to get the XP rates you do already as well as maintain the value of the runecrafting skill. In the next poll we want to offer this question.
Question: Being able to train magic effectively in Nightmare Zone without the need to use player created runes is having a severe effect on the runecrafting skill. To allow you to keep getting the current XP and maintain the value of the runecrafting skill should you only get magic XP in Nightmare Zone if you use your own runes?
Feedback from the Nightmare Zone thread also showed us that you consider being able to AFK large amounts of XP as something that needs looking at. We quickly became aware that the 6 hour timer which logs out a player wasn't functioning as it should and wouldn't log out someone if they are in combat. We shall change this so that if you are in combat when you reach the 6 hour log out time, we will force you to log out. As this is how the system is supposed to work, we won't be polling this change.
In addition to this we would like to poll a question to bring the timer inline to an update which happened in 2008. If an account does not interact with the game for 5 minutes we will log them out whether they are in combat or not. Moving your camera or pressing keyboard keys will not count as interacting with the game. This will remove the ability to be completely AFK and as such make Old School much more engaging.
Question: Should we introduce an activity timer which will log you out of the game whether or not you are in combat if you have not interacted with the client for 5 minutes?
Finally, although the XP rates in Nightmare Zone are comparable with other aspects of the game, many of you have asked us to look at these again. So, in the next poll we want to offer this question.
Question: Should the combat XP you get in Nightmare Zone scale up so you get 100% of the XP if you have unlocked all of the bosses available for that dream?
This will reward players who have more quests unlocked. To give you some sort of comparison, if you were to use a booster account you would get about a third of the XP you currently do. Players will still be able to grind in Nightmare Zone using a booster, but those with more quests unlocked will get the best XP.
