Unfortunately, as much as many disagree, the micro transactions are essential to the games survival.. everything costs money..
I appreciate Jagex trying to work with their customers and consumers to help find a solution that both benefits them, as well as the player with everyone's integrity still intact.
They seem to trying to find a balance, at least having the illusion of choice makes the customer feel as if they are having an upper hand/better deal.
The suggestion to purchase everything with keys wouldn't work specifically when buying items such as armor/weapon/gear etc. As that would have too much of a direct impact on the market.
Their solution to this was the Oddments store - Where every day you still get the oddments and have the option to purchase what
You
want, without having any immediate direct impact to the market and value of other items
I do however agree this encourages underaged 'gambling' and is terrible exposure to younger players who don't know better... It needs to be a toggled feature - even if that means losing your daily key reward.
As for adults who
do
know better, don't want the product, simply don't buy it.. Easier said than done, I know.. However like many aspects in life, sometimes self control is required
There are still many players who enjoy the Treasure Hunter and can budget Real Life money for a little extra in game bonus or fun.
