Obviously, other promos - including Loot Duels - are also easily exploited.
Jagex: TH keys are 75% off!
Also Jagex: OMG! SOME PLAYERS BOUGHT SO MANY TH KEYS! *swings ban hammers wildly*
TH keys at 75% off for real money has totally nothing to do with TH keys at 75% off in the oddments store.
You are just barking up the wrong tree.
Once again, Dilbert, you are misunderstanding the situation. Did you even read the newspost?
In my statement you quoted, I was talking about players buying TH keys with oddments, not with real world money. However, either way the result would have been the same, regardless of how the initial investment in TH keys was paid for. These players accumulated TH keys at a discount, won enough oddments via Loot Duels to buy more TH keys at 75% off using those oddments, then repeated the process. Sure, sometimes they'd have a choice between two basic TH chests and only get 30 oddments from that one duel, but they must have made up for those with larger payoffs to such an extent that Jagex noticed the exploit, issued the punitive bans, and made a newspost about what had happened.
So no, I wasn't barking up the wrong tree. You simply got yourself lost in the forest.

Neither did I.
In fact, I rarely bother checking for these sales.

TH keys has NEVER been 75% off in the Oddments Store. You are stretching it even further away from the actual situation.

^ Pretty sure I've seen them for 113 oddments (75% off) a time or two. Not this week, but again I don't check these sales often.
I did note today's Crystal Capsules promo gives 10 FREE TH KEYS - yes, a 100% discount on keys - for the first key used, as this promo has done before.
You balk at the thought of Jagex offering 75% off keys. Today they offer 10 keys at 100% off.
Jagex might be trolling you, Dilbert.

No. TH Keys were never discounted in the Oddments Stores before last week. Otherwise, the exploit would have happened before, especially at 75% off.
Crytal Capsule also gave 10 free TH keys. There is no exploit whatsoever as everybody can earn 10 free TH keys just by playing game or at least 1 to 3 free daily ones without playing.

Can confirm what op is talking about. For the Cerberus TH, I had unlocked x3 multiplier and keys were 50% off, so I'd spend 225 oddments, use hearts of ice for the white gems & would mostly get yellow gems/better. Given the x3 multiplier, converting the prize into oddments would provide x3 normal cashout of oddments, making it pretty easy to cash out with more oddments than the cost of a half-off key @ 225 oddments.
I know it doesn't have to do with rainbow specifically, but considering rainbow also had a multiplier, maybe jagex should consider holding off on key promos during THs with multipliers
If any of you read the date of when I posted that^ in THIS thread, you can see that Keys HAVE been 50% off before. Not only that, but they've been offered alongside other TH promos that and HAVE made them "exploitable" for MONTHS before the 1k people ban Jagex issued out.
This thread is literally about the exact "exploit" Jagex so gracefully dealt with, except this thread was posted exactly 1mo before this week's dilema took place, not only did a Forum mod brush it off but I made sure to provide detailed info of what was necessary to "exploit" the oddments discount+TH promo.
Playing dumb doesn't help resolve problems. Willful ignorance is just as negligible as ill-intent.

When? There was no 50% off oddments store key discount exploit or people would have been banned before.
This thread is clearly about what OP thought was an exploit and it is still here because it is really not. Fmods didn't "brush it off" as you mentioned. It is not an exploit.

I know for a fact I've seen TH keys offered for 50% off (225 oddments) several times in the past, well before the Loot Duel promo which ran the previous two weeks. Like I've said already, I don't check these sales all that often, but even so I've still seen TH keys offered at various discounts before last week. The claim that keys only went on sale when Loot Duels returned this most recent time is simply not true.
As for the 10 free keys everyone got from Crystal Capsules, no this was not an exploit. I never said it was. The same thing happened with this promo before.
I just thought it was comedic timing on Jagex's part - the same day you insisted they would never offer TH keys at a 75% discount, they go and give every player 10 free keys! This was also the same day Jagex updated us on the situation involving players who used an exploit to accumulate a lot of cheap keys for huge XP gains.
I suppose the irony was lost on you.

What "you know for a fact" but can't show doesn't mean a thing and have no discussion value to us forumers.
If you admitted the 10 free keys are fair and no exploits to everybody then it has completely no relation to this thread at all. You are just trying to steer the thread off topic.
I never insisted Jagex would never offer 75% key discount. I clearly said they never offered it in the past.

Exactly what sort of proof do you require? Screenshots of each day's sales in the Oddments Store for the past several months? Since I've previously stated I don't check these sales all that often, you could reasonably conclude I don't have those - and I don't need them.
Even though I rarely bother looking at these sales, I have done so on occasion - often enough that I've seen TH keys offered at a discount in the Oddments Store well before the recent Loot Duels exploit came along. Maybe it's true that YOU have never seen them on sale, but that doesn't mean they haven't. Perhaps you check the sales even less often than I do, or they just weren't on sale on the days you checked. Anyone who looked at these sales regularly saw TH keys offered at various discounts in the past.
Still don't believe me? Then believe Jagex. In their updated newspost regarding the exploit, they wrote that they "disabled discounts on Treasure Hunter keys in the Oddments Store for the foreseeable future". This clearly indicates such discounts were previously in effect. This wasn't some brand new concept that began with Loot Duels. It just happened to be a particularly bad combination that resulted from the random 50% discount paired with a vulnerable promo.
