Well, I didn't mind it, I just didn't like how it was promoted as being all that, like you can easy upgrade to better prizes. Jagex really did make it sound it would be quite easy to upgrade to a purple.
If you have a lot of oddments and are willing to spend them then it is not that hard to get a purple prize, but I don't think it is worth it.
Your RNG must have been low. I got 3 purples out of this... completed my rare item collection with a 4000 token win, got another lucky chaotic weapon (Diango might be holding the full set for me now) and some springs.

The write up didn't state you will need to use loads of oddments, it didn't state that purple was 1 or 2% chance, Jagex made out it was click of the fingers. If I could copy what I read, I would have <- it's the way Jagex upped it that annoyed me.

Different players have different interpretation of "a lot". The far more transparent way is to show the players how many oddments are needed to upgrade the rarity of their prizes, which Jagex did. I could also see the chance of getting a purple item and it was also an extremely transparent 1%.
What do you mean by transparent? In what way could you see getting a purple? You have a red, it's 1, 2 or 3% chance to get purple <- how is that transparent? How could you see purple out of that?

They have shown the odds of the crystals at the beginning of the introduction, chance of purple crystal is shown as 0.1%. You may want to pay some attention to it next time (if and when) this promotion is run again.
