How is this a step forward after all the time we
(speaking for all of the language fansites)
have been waiting for a change? Everything remains for us the same as it is today...
What has changed from the situation 2 years ago, when it was possible to support language fansites? One of our fansites was officially supported then, and the founder was even flown to Jagex HQ, as an appreciation of his work.
Why is it so hard to co-operate with language fansites? I doubt there is any J-Mod proof-reading all of the Unofficial RS Wiki articles. If you have any particular question about content on fansite you can just contact administrator and ask him for a clarification and/or a translation. I would gladly assist in developing a process/system for revision of content of foreign fansites. And I am absolutely positive all of the language fansite representatives would agree to join such a system.
Sticking to the reason of lacking language proficiency, as we've already heard before, means there will never be a serious support for language fansites. Is there no will at all to make it work?
Hi
Matonym
,
I have responded with a detailed reply on the foreign language fansites thread
here
- hopefully that will explain our position and why we have taken the position we have.
I prefer the Tiers still, but I'm interested to see how this will work in the days coming. I do have a question though. Will the lower tier fansites no longer get promotion through social media accounts? I feel like the lower tiers should be allowed the ability to utilize things like the official RS Twitter in order to help their sides grow in an effort to rank up to Jagex Approved, which requires a sizeable amount if activity.
Support through social media for registered sites will ad hoc rather than the regular support we would expect to provide for an approved site. That means that where a registered site has an event we will try to squeeze it into our schedule - an approved site we would assume to include them in our social media scheduling.
It should also be noted that we have conducted an audit of the existing fansites also as part of this process, checking who is active, running events and engaging with their community, in preparation for the new scheme being applied.
This is really interesting yet all I can think about is how my Fansite would be affect with these changes and how I can grow from it. I don't know if a lot of people know how hard it is to build a fansite and really manage all the staff and try gaining more people to your site which is one of the biggest struggles for me as a fansite owner. I know it might seem like jealously but its far from it.
I can agree that a system like this would work, yet I still can only think how hard it would be for my fansite to grow because of a system like this. I also feel those who are in vote for something like this should know how hard it is to build a fansite if you don't have a lot of close friends to help you and really dedicate the time to build a new fansite.
I will truly be upfront and honest with the struggles of my fansite CrusadersScape/ScapeCentral and honestly it is on a road to sicking and becoming a dead fansite. We have had a few spikes here and there but currently there is no strong staff presents on the site and those who I have as a rep kinda on that boat as well and it is all because its a new fansite. A lot of stuff has to be develop and its really hard to find our focus and it forces me to do less work on the site because I have to focus on building a team.
One of my goals for this year was to be apart of RuneFest and really use that unique time to find more people who might not know about our site and reading the support system "
An Official Jagex Approved Fansite
" would be given RuneFest tickets. Although I kind of don't know where my fansite lies but to be honest I know it would not be seen as a Official Jagex Approved Fansite due to not having a "
Large, with a busy, active community
" as well as "
Regularly creating community events and activities
" which is hard to do if you do not have active staff or people willing to devote the time to spend on a Fansite.

Hi
DieHunted
,
It is hard to grow a fansite and the RuneScape Community team appreciate that, but it is also not the place of the Community team to develop your fansite for you - while we support fansites through this scheme, either in its previous form or the new version we are to launch, it should be the passion and drive of the staff of a site that makes for its success. There is no way we can do that for you.
The same is true of support like RuneFest tickets - things like that are offered to fansites that have grown to a sizeable community of their own, that they can run competitions for their members and we can give back to their efforts that way. This kind of support though cannot be offered to every fansite ever; there are very real costs in such efforts and as a team we have a budget that we have to work within.
We do not expect fansite staff to be PMods and it is not a route to become a PMod either - but as a company Jagex cannot support sites that do not promote a positive attitude to the game and the people that play it - I don't see this as a surprising position
Fansites should also not be considered a path to employment with Jagex - it is certainly not the case that Game Developers work with fansites or even the Community team in the way have suggested you might like them to. Game Developers are a scarce resource and it is unlikely any would be able to work on an external project like fansites.
Well thank you for the reply, all of my questions has been answered but some things really interest me but I won't say or add no more to it.
I still hope I have the opportunity to do a Contest me and Jane discussed, I guess it would be best to email her about it. But again thank you for the reply much appreciated.
