What happened to the caves leading to Zamorak's stronghold, in the desert? Have they simply collapsed? What's stopping another assault on such a vulnerable weak point?

It's been hinted at that the White Knights have long had darker intentions. Will we ever get to see the lore behind this expanded on or explained in more detail in the game? †
