Thanks, man. Besides my big thread from two years ago, I’m ok with the slow march of most of my lore toward page 51 - except I’d like to hold onto my take on the elder hammer a little longer:

According to the great mystic of the 3rd age Alan Gumph, the elder goddesses used the hammer to awaken the sacred clay. Once struck, the clay began to yearn for shape and form as we know it today, and thus it became suitable for the building of worlds. Having fulfilled its function, the hammer was abandoned long ago, and in its presence came to be the talon beasts and nail beasts - we see their divine origin in the unique charms that they drop, akin to the unique charms of the TzHaar and TokHaar who also came from an elder artifact.

It’s not often that one can so succinctly fill a couple obscure gaps in lore, contribute to planar theory, and reference both the joke of a 12th century metaphysician and recently discovered biophysical properties of clay! (credit to Rondstat for ideas on nailbeasts)

This forum has gone quiet again...

I like the proposed comp cape changes - it helpfully gathers together a map of all the game’s content, and I think it’ll make the world easier to understand for new players. Unfortunately, I’m not seeing much sensitivity to this on the official thread.

Yes, no idea why, we fought so hard to get this forum. :(

And agreed. Keep supporting. :)
Bizarre Boron Fusswell, scryer extraordinaire. OSRS: POH ideas & RS3 minigames & achievement ideas !

Perhaps you're half right; perhaps we can't win. But we can fight.

We did. It is good that Jagex has given so much more attention to lore, but that increased attention is likely behind the change in how the lore community operates.

Ten years ago, the lore was so sparse and developed so slowly. That kept the lore community small and highly speculative but also perpetually engaged. Since RuneScape’s lore has been developed in bigger chunks and has become more popular, the lore community has expanded and also become kind of trendy, its activity quickly rising and falling with the release of new lore.

It would be good if we could have a small core of lorehounds that kept some conversation going all the time - maybe highly speculative and underdeveloped stuff like in years past. (not to credit myself though, since I’ve tried to do that to some extent mostly on my own threads)

I think part of the reason why the lore forums are so inactive is the popularity of the RuneScape Discord channels. A lot of the members of the lore community who were once active in this forum are now active there, discussing lore (sometimes with JMods)..

That makes sense. Even so, ‘tis a shame to see our forum so quiet.

Again, I like the tone of the new designer diary - a return to fundamentals and re-mastering the core mechanics of RuneScape. I think the focus and making the world intelligible again for new players will benefit the game for decades.

Maybe it’s even time to re-master the story’s sprawling metaphysics... ;)

(I’d be happy to help!)

(In a similar way, the Marvel movies took a definitive stance on time travel paradoxes in Endgame, which greatly contributes to their universe.)

(Even if there was no interest in planar theory, magic theory, anima theory, etc., it’d still be cool to see Jmods draw on the extensive knowledge of their lorehounds as they re-master various parts of the game and its lore.)

I agree with this part of it, though I don't exactly like the fact that some new quests may require 99's. I also don't like them focusing all their attention on the Kerapac storyline, but maybe its just because I don't like that storyline...
