Backstory: Ok, so a while ago I made this Reddit thread asking for a better Lore intro on Ashdale, and Mod Stu posted on it, asking about what continuity errors I was referencing between the Ashdale Tutorial and Shadow Over Ashdale.

https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/742msx/small_update_to_ashdale_introduction/duh2p13/?context=1

Yesterday, I found original concept art stating that the player's house is on the Island, which explains why we're there, but apparently Mod Stu says that's been retconned (See above link).

So, why are you on Ashdale.

Admittedly, we know so little about the island, I have no idea why the hell I'm there, with some dwarf that I never interact with again.

What have you guys made up for yourselves?

Because it's my character's childhood home, where he was born and raised. His whole family lives on the island. The tutorial was the start of his adventures, and the first time he'd ever been to the mainland. I have a whole fleshed out backstory centered on Ashdale, that also makes use of other ingame references to the player character's story (Aquamancer has a great thread that compiles references of that type).

The RS website pages on Ashdale, and on some of the characters (like Gudrik and Morwenna) tell us more about the island and stuff, btw. We got a nice summary of Ashdale's history via the website.
The Asgarnian ale must flow.

Apparently, I had way too much to drink. It was so bad that I forgot how to use a sword, how to mine and smith, and even how to run.
I'm not sure if I was drunk intentionally or if I had lost a bet or something.

If I had been sober, this whole undead sorceress thing would have been over a lot quicker.

Or to take a line from X-men Days of Future Past: "You had an overload. Someone gave you a really bad overload."

*Basically, this was a complaint thread, because there is no logical reason for us to be there in the current lore, because Mod Stu says it being our home has been essentially retconned, and I was hoping for some sort of clarification in some way.

No logical explanation? It's not the best hook for new players, that's for sure, but it's not hard to come up with a backstory for simply standing in front of a house. Every tutorial's just dropped you in front of somewhere, this one's just more restrictive. Why were you in the Burthorpe Warzone? Why were you on Tutorial Island? In some cellar with a knight? You've always had to make up your own story.

I have noticed your kind does tend to blindly stumble forward towards danger simply because it exists. What is your word for that?
- We call it being a hero.

sort of is a hook, new players will think of it as home, while those who've played since tutorial island can give their own reason
