Alright so I just checked out the post-children of Mah dialogue for seren, and when I questioned her about her thoughts on the mahjarrat she said that...she was remorseful and she regretted doing what she did....

Why...?

Im going to start of by saying that...The majority of the mahjarrat race, for the most part, are a complete bunch of [REDACTED]. But for the purposes of this thread, we'll forget that the majority of the mahjarrat race are a bunch of [REDACTED] and on why seren felt so bad at doing what she did.

First, this is my understanding of the lore thus far:

Mah dreams of her children Seren and Zaros, and thus created the race of mahjarrat.
The mahjarrat was slowing losing power and dying and Mah was having nightmares that threated to tear all of freneske apart. So seren decides to solve two problems at once...Sacrfice the one of the mahjarrat and give a little bit of the power back to them to keep them alive..and stop Mah from...you know...killing everything.

So while yes...she did in fact deceive the Mahjarrat by posing as Mah, giving them the ritual while in turn stealing most of the energy and giving it to Mah. However the fact still stands that without her intervention of the ritual to begin with, the mahjarrats race would have died off a long time ago whether due to Mah's fits and nightmares or just the Mahjarrat's own dwindling powers.

So...Seren saved the entire Mahjarrat race...

Not necessarily a good thing though since most of them are giant [REDACTED] anyways but hey.

So why then, would she feel sorry for doing any of that?
Am I missing a piece of lore or something?
Also why can't we just tell her the mahjarrat race had it comming anyways.

I feel like this dialogue explains this best:

Seren: It was not for nothing! If you had not performed the rituals to give energy back to Mah she would have torn this planet apart. Your whole race would have been annihilated!

Azzanadra: And sacrificing our own kin was the best you could think of? With all the power and wisdom you have been gifted that was the best you could do?

Seren: I was naive, yes. I have made many mistakes. I bear the guilt of my actions every waking moment.

Yes, she saved them from destruction, but she also sicced them on each other's throats. She's been left wondering whether there truly was a better way and she was just blinded by her love for Mah, or if she actually did what was best for everyone.

You have created yourself a seemingly unanswerable problem because you assume this to be be true, but we have no evidence that the mahjarrat were actually loosing power before the Seren created the sacrifices.

Think about it, the sacrifices are intrinsically linked to the mahjarrat draining. When the new ritual stone was made in Children of Mah it spread up the rate that they lost energy, presumably the other ritual stones caused them also to loose energy. (Maybe not gielinors... since it was made by Zaros [or especially gielinors because it was made by Zaros])

So let's pretend for a second that Mah caused them to lose energy. This would effectively cause them to lose their immortality. (Not to mention that it was the introduction sacrifices that killed of the Mahserrat and the Chellon-Mah. Plus Seren abandoned them on a dying planet with a deranged elder god, when she could have teleported them off. So with this assumption it certainly seems a lot like less Seren saved them and more like Seren killed them.

She could have killed Mah to save them before turning them on each other in a selfish, cannibalistic Highlander culture for centuries until their numbers dwindled to around a dozen with only one female to go around.

She is as responsible for the current mahjarrats' behavior as Jas is for the dragonkins'.

1) As far as we know, they did not lose energy on Freneskae.

2) She could have easily handled the Muspah herself.

Teaching them how to breed drained Mah. If she simply encouraged them to continue this, not sacrifice each other, and temporarily handle the Muspah herself, she could have allowed the Mahjarrat to populate freely and destroy the worst monster of them all: Mah. With enough Rituals of Enervation, Mah would have been too weakened to create Muspah or, better yet, dead. From there, they could look into ways of using the energy of dead Mahjarrat to their benefit, perhaps reshaping into a newborn's life.

Everything she did, she did for Mah. She would have been quite happy to just let them all kill themselves to keep Mah alive, but Mah was prone to injuring herself and needed energy to be taken away to stop this, which is why she taught them to breed. Mah was an overcontrolling monster that would have killed all her children just so she could survive. Helping her was inexcusable, especially at the cost of her sibling's lives.

I don't know if Mah was killable even back at that point. Didn't Seren need our help to deal with Mah?

Bilrach said that the mahserrat died out because they didn't do any rituals in other words they did need rituals to survive. Seren saved them by introducing rituals. The biggest proof is that they had rituals in Gielinor where there was no Mah to drain them until the sixth age.

Yes, if you don't breed, your race will die out.

Actually, they needed rituals in Gielinor because Mah wasn't there.

It's easy to forget that the Mahjarrat knew exactly WHY they were doing the rituals (to help Mah), but they agreed to do them anyway. They could have stopped once they arrived on Gielinor, but Zaros enabled them to continue.

They had a choice. Seren is not the only one to blame.

Seren was, at the end of the day, just trying to help Mah. It never even occurred to her that Wen had corrupted her; if she knew then she probably would have put her out of her misery a lot earlier.

As for the Mahjarrat, Seren mentioned 'going wrong' somewhere and they ended up becoming violent and sacrificed each other to keep their race alive. It was based on a theory that she made, trying to keep Mah alive and it was all done to care for everyone in the only way she could think of at the time. As a caring being, it's only natural that she should be remorseful.
