Even the basic concept of self preservation is spat on by the actions of the Mahjarrat. Particularly since it seems that Zamorak figured out a way to Reproduce and never bothered to share that with any of the others even his own followers.

No the actions of the Mahjarrat and in deed other Dreams of Mah are far to stupid and ignore even the most basic survival instincts to have been created simply by the Ritual Seren created.

Your point about how Seren could physically alter the dna of all the Dreams of Mah is a good one, but I would like to point out that it's not impossible for her to do so. Zamorak genetically altered all elves so they they would become Chaos dwarves so perhaps Mah could do the same thing. Also the Dreams of Mah are made up of very different stuff then the dragonriders. Dreams of Mah are made up of the same stuff Seren is made up of, so it stands to reason she knows how to manipulate their DNA.

All this being said, I doubt Seren actually manipulated the genetic structure of the Mahjarrat. The cause of their draining was not because the dreams of mah were changed in any way, but because Seren created a lightning rod/ritual stone between Mah and the Dreams of Mah that allowed for Mah to drain them. Without either the Rod or Mah existing, they wouldn't be drained.

Mah would be capable of anything. How ever Saren and Zaros are limited to what they are capable of doing. Zamorak created the Chaos Dwarfs by enhancing their aggressiveness. Seren altered the Elves to expand their life at the cost of being tied to her. Zaros experimented on Avancies to create Nihils. But none of those effects come even close to the purposed effect Seren had on the Dreams of Mah. Altering their very existence to be completely dependent on the Ritual of Rejuvenation to survive.
I'm a big entropy fan.

All subtlety and nuance of a napalm enema

Didn't Seren come up with the rituals mainly so there would be a balance in energy in Mah so Mah would stay alive and also not demolish Freneskae and every living thing on it?

'cause she's ok in my book, she just didn't anticipate Icthlarin coming to Freneskae

Yes and no. She really only did it for Mah. She sah the Mahjarrat as a waste and instructed them to sacrifice themselves so she could live. The problem was, without Zaros, Mah was prone to tantrums and would often hurt herself, so Seren taught them how to breed so she wouldn't accidently kill herself.

And that's the problem. Mah didn't need to be saved. She was a heartless monster and nothing more. If Seren wasn't so blinded by emotion, she would have seen this. And perhaps then she could have been honest with them, taught them how to breed only and continue to take energy from Mah until she was practically nothing. From there, she and the others could study what happened to their energy if they died without a ritual stone. Where did it go? Was there a way to take the energy from a lost Mahjarrat and continue to breed even without Mah?

This would have been the logical and ethical approach.
Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.
