Considering how Ancient Drew covered all in-game I figure I might as well mention one that doesn't exist. During one of the podcasts it was mentioned how there was once plans for a Guardian of Guthix called Erebus. It would have been some sort of sentient prison-complex, in which Guthix would have locked away some of the most dangerous things he'd ever encountered.

Sadly this amazingly metal idea never saw the light of day.

It it still possible for Erebus to be added. JMods did say that there might've been other Guardians before the eight we know, who died and were replaced, like how we replaced Cres. As such, JMods are open for the idea of additional Guardians, who are either no longer alive, or were not considered "true guardians", in a sense. Erebus could be an "unofficial" Guardian of sorts, one which the others refuse to even mention or associate themselves with due to the disgust they have over it.

Think about it: JMods' intention for Erebus was to devour and imprison within itself any mortal who would prove to be too detrimental for the balance of the world. It's possible Guthix created Erebus as a measure to deal with mortals still working for their gods: any mortal who would try to open a portal to outer realms, or would otherwise try to unbalance the world would wind up eaten by Erebus and be forever imprisoned within its stomach. It's even possible that Erebus was intended to be the "replacement" for Aeternam: as she was stuck guarding the Stone of Jas, something would've been needed to guard the world.

Original message details are unavailable.
And to protect the Stone until such time as, near to death, whereby you are relieved of all duties, and shall henceforth be returned to your home plane with the gratitude and blessings of Guthix.

So... Is it possible they might have left the construct before it died?

See about 1:30-1:40 for death animation. It appears that they are frozen in time for a few moments and then energy is clearly leaving the construct before it falls to bits. So, maybe they're alive elsewhere?

I don't really consider Aeternam and the Player as one of the Eight "real" Guardians.

The Guardians were the ones who walked with Guthix at the end of the Third Age to help with his task of healing as much of the world as possible, as well as defending him while he worked.

So Juna, Fiara, Valluta, Death, Cres, Ocellus, and Solak would have filled this purpose.

Aeternam and the Player act as something slightly higher than the other Guardians with a more focused effort against Gods and their followers as such.

The other Guardians protect ideals or special areas that shouldn't be meddled with. Aeternam and Us do a slightly "higher" role.

This also leaves room for 1 more Female Guardian; since we have 2 World Guardians who while "Guardians of Guthix" have different roles to fill.

Aeternam's origin (as a character concept) lies back in Armies of Gielinor as does the origins of the other druid characters that made up the Balance Elemental. In Armies of Gielinor, Aeternam cast the spell that froze the GWD.

I'd say that would classify as helping to heal the world based on what Guthix tended to see as damaging to the world.

Our appointment was a special case.

I recall Mark or Osborn strongly hinted that Skaldrun was originally intended to be a Guardian of Guthix, but they quickly changed their minds about that. Wonder if this is the same time they were tossing around the Erebus idea.

Are there any lorebooks associated with Lost Grove?

Solak never walked with Guthix, as seen from his lore, he disappeared once the island was corrupted in the second age (before the GW era). Aeternam was one who walked with Guthix, was appointed BEFORE the GW, and was the one that caste the frozen spell on the GWD.

So even if you don't consider them as guardians, sadly they are as guardians of guthix are those appointed by Guthix. Plus our title are just title, like each guardian has their own title.

TBH I'm reluctant to say that Solak is a Guardian of Guthix at all, since briefly being called one by a Jmod is the only source. And we know how that's gone in the past. *cough* Chaeldar *cough* You never were our brightest star, Khazard. 'Vermin slaughtered like lambs'? What does that even mean?

I never recalled Chaeldar being considered a guardian by Jagex. I think the idea of Chaeldar and the 99 herblist master being guardian was because of their appearance in the world wake (And the mention of you helping the guardians is what might have confused it.)
