Instead of choosing someone to follow, how about choosing a personality profile to roleplay instead?
Which is why I recommended watching anime.
I've always been quite interested in what Johan Liebert might do, and once compared Sliske to him. There's a plethora of different characters to roleplay with, and each one would not only have different factions, but also different ways of approaching their goals relative to their faction. For example...
Hellsing Ultimate's Major: Bandosian. Evil genius who is happy and content whenever there is war. He would be sympathetic with Zamorak in DAT but would betray him to keep the second God Wars going.

...implying that characters with distinct and easy-to-grasp personality types are only found in anime...?
weeblord confirmed
Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.

He forgot Clannad though.
I'm watching that right now, actually!

I digress, however. What I was trying to say is that many of the richest and most complex stories and characters come from anime. But that's not to say there aren't any such personalities or stories in other things, such as
manga
Animal Farm and the Alice books.
Try looking at all different things to get a grasp on different characters and stories, and maybe even try to combine a few. It might be fun.

A totally vacuous, utterly unsubstantiated statement.

I think at this point, Free Agent is the way to go. "Follow" whichever god happens to fit my purposes most at the time.
No, I did a playthrough of a single player RPG (Dragon Age: Origins) along those lines, and it felt... unsatisfying. I enjoyed it a lot more when I did a playthrough with a clear idea of my character's personality traits/faction loyalties.

Then what do you suggest, Circuit? (as if the answer isn't seemingly obvious...)
