Ok, going to repost here, originally posted under existing game content.

See, I have been thinking recently, in Dishonour Among Thieves, Zamorak explains that you cannot permanently absorb power from the Stone of Jas and thereby ascend to godhood because Guthix made you the World Guardian. However, you first encounter the Stone of Jas during While Guthix Sleeps, before the events of The World Wakes where Guthix makes you the World Guardian. Logically it follows that you should have permanently absorbed some of the power from the Stone of Jas from that initial contact.

A bit, which is channeled into those huge xp drops post-quest.

I'm guessing it just says something about our heroic heart that we did not think "yes, I MUST HAVE ALL THE POWER!!!" but "I need to stop Lucien!" and so we only took what was needed for us to do that.

I've always had a sort of headcanon that when you touch the stone and the power floods in, after a few minutes it tries to pull itself back out, and you can either let it go (like we did, and are now forced to) or cling to it, causing it to change you from the inside as well as cause the dragonkin that pain like the power itself is calling out to them.
Headcanon Haven, where everything is made up and the points don't matter.

Here's the reason.

1. WE only touched it, and were with it for a short amount of time, we only absorbed some power, and knowledge. What stopped it was us fingering out about Jas, then Lucien interfering with us.

2. Jmods had stated that in order to ascend to godhood with any elder artifacts, one must have spent a long time using it, and being with it. Simply because it is what gives power, as our body absorbs.

3. Zamorak is a god, and had more practice in using the stone of Jas before Sliske came face to face, Zamorak was absorbing a huge junk of power from the stone to regain the tier he lost. If he had continued, without being interrupted, he could have been in the same level as Saradomin. Besides, according to Zamorak, we have a good sense of using the stone's power, despite not being able to keep it within us long enough.

The answer is simple. We had the power to shield all along, Guthix just amped it up by a truck load.
I don't like that answer. I prefer having been an ordinary, but powerful, human before guthix decided to mess with my body without my permission

I like the other ones much better, that we have no idea how to use the stone since we've only briefly touched it like twice, whereas zamorak has had it for quite a while, and lucien had a few months of unrestricted access to the stone... it would make sense that they'd be able to use it better Empty Soul said :
My lore is a little rusty, but wasn't there something about also needing the Siphon in order to ascend?
the staff of armadyl would be helpful, especially if there's a god around that you can kill for its energy, but I don't imagine that it's needed... just that zamorak found it helpful and lucien decided not to mess with a working formula

You say ordinary? Yet what if any human from Gielinor could have done it?

The gods have been here influencing people, in a way, for a long time. Thre is no reason that humans could not have started to build up some tolerance. It could even be those decendants that specifically lived with in the Empire, closest to Zaros. Or possibly closest to Seren. If a god can give off an aura, then why not resistance building up to it over time, species wise?

Good theory. I like the idea that it's more of a latent ability that Guthix has bolstered rather than the player being your average Joe that just coincidentally is at the heart of everything.

It also plays on the idea that the player could have a potentially very deep origin story. Thinking along the lines of the balance elemental having known us, links to Xau Tak and the players prophesised birth etc. It's clear the player isn't just anybody!

Still very early days anyhow, we will have to wait and see! ^_^

The things I can do irl are things anyone can do with time, practice, and motivation... a god didnt come along and make me super-human, negating any and all accomplishments I make in my life (so far not overly many)
That's why I don't like it, not because it isn't a possibility

I did say "i don't like', not 'nah, there's no way that happened' :P
