It could also explain the 'Corpse oceans' that V described. A reaper who is consuming souls wouldn't give a damn about the body itself, and could very well just leave them laying there. That sounds like a "Corpse ocean" to me.

And the bar is raised once again. Well, it would certainly be interesting, if macabre, if we ever got to visit one of these dead worlds.

You seem to forget that corpses in this lore have a tendency to get up and move. Why leave the bodies lying around when they can remain animate? Wouldn't swimming such an ocean be more rewarding due to the tidal effect of billions of bodies thrashing as you pass? Why leave them merely to rot when they can babble and howl your praises in the dark places, or crawl through your endless labyrinth in terrified silence? In fact, why worry about any of this when your mind is so alien your thoughts make reality boil?

Do you hear that whooshing noise? That's the bar achieving escape velocity. ;) You’re welcome.
No that's fine, Wilson. I didn't feel like sleeping today anyway...

Why? You would only need that if you think you can fight them. You’d only try to fight them if you think you can win. Do you really think you can save them, Aliksandar? You can't. There is an impatient hell that knows your name. And this is Xau-Tak.

I like the idea of Xau-Tak's origins intentionally being left a mystery. One day there was no Xau-Tak, and then one day there was. Some characters could possibly provide some speculation on Xau's origins, but I don't think we should have a definitive one.

Anyway, here's a question I haven't really seen anyone asking: What does Xau-Tak want? What is it's end goal? We know Xau-Tak likes resurrecting the dead, and has apparently destroyed various worlds... but to what aim?
You never were our brightest star, Khazard. 'Vermin slaughtered like lambs'? What does that even mean?

Has any puny undead creature ever had any change against us? And now thanks to our plot armour known as world guardianity not even gods can beat us (unless they stomp us. But that will only slow us for few minutes and cost us a lot.). World guardian is unstoppable force of both destruction and creation. Time after time we defeat any obstacle be it with force or deus ex machina. Xau may kill us but every time we will rise stronger, wiser and better geared until we will be the one killing it. And it won't come back. In the end, we win. Always. Does Xau-Tak have any chance against us? No. It will be dead the moment it decides to try to take MY world. In the end, Gielinor only has life because we allow them to live. And because you don't let us to attack everything > :(

But still. Does he take the souls to power himself and use the corpses as puppets. If so, good. It would be waste to only do one of those things.

Maybe that's just it. By all accounts Xau-Tak is meant to be so alien that maybe its goals are just as inscrutable as its origins. Perhaps it simply enjoys the tickling of swimming through a writhing ocean of reanimate flailing limbs; maybe that's the only way it can scratch that one hard to reach spot on its carapace.

One thing I certainly know is that we're going to need a lot more than a Salve amulet (e).
