I thought it started out more like

Zanik: Dear, we don't go out enough anymore. Can we go on an adventure? I heard of a tournament for the Bandosians.
Player: Yeah, sure dear.

Fast forward to the tourney.
Things have gone well enough so far.

Zanik shows up in new outfit to cheer on the player.
Player: Good gods, by Zamorak's sweaty armpits in Infernus WT* is THAT?!?!?!?
Zanik: Don't you like? I changed my look for you!
Player: *mumbles* *deflects*
Zanik: I said *pulls out bone crossbow* do you like my new look? *gives a stare that would burn a hole thru gorgonite*
Player: Well that's a loaded question ....
Zanik: I'm still waiting ...
Player: Do you hear that? they called my name for the final round. see ya later sweetie.

Fast forward to finale and the player's final decision
Player: Zanik, remember how you asked earlier how I felt the way you changed your look *player holds the Kyzaj menancingly*
Zanik: *Zanik gulps* yes?
Player: Well, let me show you how I feel ...

The ending cuts to player choice from quest.

In my own story I'd pair up my own 2 created characters. (That way their personalities and interactions are exactly as I'd imagine.) (Plus the fact only players can look like Drakewings.)

But in terms of RuneScape NPC characters.
Zanik, definitely.
She was the closest to me in the quests, with various quests involving her.

And that final hug at the end of The Mighty Fall. It hurts, man.
