Theory as of May 2020 Edited for July 2020

This is just a theory that I ran with about where things will go from here.

This chronicles the last days of Runescape...

========================

Post-Desperate Measures Quest - in this quest, the scene is set for the rest of the story. Kerapac informs you that all he has done is to save the universe, and that culminates with one more task he needs your help with. Before he can elaborate much more, you are whisked into a meeting with the Elder Gods, all of whom are awake now and led by Jas. Jas informs you that judgement has been passed on living things, and it has been decided that all living things will be wiped out, and a new Great Revision will occur imminently. She is unmoved by your appeals and teleports you out of the meeting. Kerapac reconvenes the council of Seren from Desperate Times and reveals his ultimate plan - to sabotage the Elder Gods plan for a Great Revision and destroy the Elder Halls of Gielinor. After much debate, it is decided to go along with him. Throughout the rest of the quest, the setup is done, and just as the Elder Gods ready to wipe out the universe and start anew, Kerapac and you enter. Using The Measure (which you possess) and the artifacts Kerapac possesses, you are able to thwart their plans and destroy the Elder Halls, stopping their ritual in the process. Without the Elder Halls, the Elder Gods cannot perform the ritual. And now, Kerapac's insidious plan comes into focus truly...now, the Elder Gods are slowly beginning to die since they cannot reform.

If a massive new source of anima cannot be found to restore the Elder Gods life force, they will meet the same fate as Mah. And so, they are forced to work together with the life forms they wished to destroy earlier. You promise that you will find a solution IF Jas promises not to wipe out life. She agrees grundingly. Kerapac, on the other hand, sees this as a grand opportunity to rid the world of the Elder Gods once and for all. You fuss with him, but he flees, promising that the days of the Dragonkin's oppressors are numbered.
To Be Continued...
=========================
Now, post-Desperate Measures Quest sets the scene for a final trilogy of Runescape. These are above Grandmaster-Level, a new Elder Level Quest that requires all Grandmaster and lower quests to be completed first.
Part 1: The Sins of Saradomin
You meet with several of the gods to spitball ideas about what can be done, and each of them have various ideas that are less than fruitful. After this, you have a break with reality as Sliske inside of you shows you some of Sliske's findings from earlier in his delvings into the Shadows...one of these is that of Xau-Tak and the people on Teragard. Sliske-inside-you suggests you use the world gate to investigate Teragard for clues. This leads to the crux of the quest, where you travel to Teragard and learn about it. There, you slowly unravel a deep revile for Saradomin who abandoned them and left them to slowly succumb to the evils of the Schism. The more you investigate, the more you learn that this Schism - the source of power on Teragard - is a supremely powerful energy source that is having a corrupting influence throughout the universe. You find your way into a complex temple dedicated to the Schism and fight several Magisters who are guarding what lies within. As you reach the middle of the temple, you realize that the markings on the wall and clues indicate that only Saradomin - the first Magister - can unlock the way to the inner Sanctum.

You head back to Gielinor and speak to Saradomin, who absolutely refuses to oblige. After a long appeal that this could be the only way to save the universe, though, he finally decides to join you on a quest to the temple on Teragard. When Saradomin opens the door to the Sanctum, he is whisked away forcefully. You enter the Sanctum and immediately realize this was a mistake - the Sanctum leads underground to the heart of the Schism, cackling with power. Inside, you are greeted with visions and weird sayings of Xau-Tak and imminent death and demise for the universe. You also must fight a Xau-Takian Entity inside that wants to kill you. After defeating it and heading out of the Temple, you have to witness Saradomin who is tied up, and the Magisters of Teragard who are putting him on trial. You try to support Saradomin, but eventually, you fail, and he is sentenced to death. Saradomin's powers are drained by the Schism, and he is hurled into the Schism to face death, along with the Elder Crown. As he does, the Schism voices that the end of all is approaching. You are teleported away to a meeting with Seren and Zaros who are bitterly fighting about what to do. Zaros possibly sees this as an opportunity for seize power as an Elder God himself while Seren sees it as a time to unite everyone against the forces of evil. You inform them about the happenings on Teragard. sTReTCh1028

Zaros finally realizes - the Schism houses the ethereal spirit and remains of a sixth Elder God, named Xau. While the other Elders have moutpieces called Kra, Xau has a god-like mouthpiece it calls Xau-Tak, which wrecks destruction across the universe. Xau, Zaros theorizes, created itself out of the discarded remains of previous Great Revisions - in essence, life finding a way in the most epic way possible. Xau now wishes to gain corporal form and create a universe in its liking. You three immediately voice your concerns to Jas, who sees the truth in Zaros's words. Jas says the existence of Xau explains the weakness each of the Elders have felt since the last Great Revision. Jas senses an war is brewing and tells all to prepare. The end is coming...

Part 2: The Fate of Zamorak

This quest begins with a dream of Zamorak...he is in Infernus, overcoming the Infernals who rule. As he finally imprisons their leader, Hostilius, and tosses him into the Abyss, black tentacles whip their way out of the Abyss and swirl around him. "Eager to claim power, your hubris will end you. Forever relegated to inferiority, you cannot escape the growing chasm of fate. This is Xau-Tak." With a start Zamorak awakes. Lying before him in his chamber is the Staff of Armadyl...

You are met with Kerapac once more. He claims that his ambitions to end the Elder threat must play a backseat while Xau-Tak is threatening to claim the universe as his own. He pledges an alliance with you and says the others of the Dragonkin are readying for war. With the Stone gone, their pain still lingers, and Kerapac is more sure than ever than the Elders will have to die for their curse to be fully gone. But for now, he says working with you, the World Guardian, offers their best chance of success. He lends you the Mirror and says he will direct you to various places around the realms where Xau-Tak's influence is greatest. You then can use the Mirror's power to redirect anima out of the tendrils and send that piece of Xau-Tak away.
As you do this several times, you are given flashes of scenes around the r ealms where Xau-Tak has influenced over the ages...it becomes more and more apparent that the corrupting influence is a large reason for the evils in the worlds. After a few instances of this, you run into Zamorak at one of them. He tells you to step aside, and as you do, he siphons out the tendril's energy with the Staff of Armadyl. As he does, power surrounds him and you hear whispers in the air: "Fate such that one cannot escape, the impending curse of pride will rend your soul. And this is Xau-Tak." Zamorak laughs and says that soon, he will be stronger than all the gods and he will be the savior of Gielinor. He then teleports away.

After you rejoin Kerapac, Seren joins you and is most worried. She says with the secret of Xau now in the open, it has no reason to stay clandestine in its aims any longer - Xau-Tak is building an invasion. She says the Elder Gods are forming armies upon armies on distant worlds and readying portals to bring these untold armies to Gielinor. Kerapac mentions the Xau's forces number in the millions across the cosmos and are also readying at Xau-Tak's words to invade as well. It seems that the tide is set for a brutal and costly war on Gielinor, one that could forever wreck destruction. Kerapac and Seren decide that it is best to use the Needle to create a bubble around Gielinor, not unlike that of Guthix's edict. This bubble will split time into two shards - one, with Gielinor stuck in time pre-Elder War, the other continuing in time to face Gielinor's fate. As World Guardian, you can Interact with the Needle to travel to the instanced Elder War World at any time. As you, Seren, and Kerapac perform the necessary magic on the Needle to make this happen, the Needle shatters into a million shards and rains as a shield upon the world. (Note that you'll Interact with the Needle's Remains instead of the Needle itself to travel back and forth between Gielinor and Elder War Gielinor.) sTReTCh1028

As this occurs, the skys darken, and portals across the sky and land begin opening. Hundreds upon hundreds of creatures of all sorts begin surging through. Lightning and energy darts across the sky, and beams of energy soar down to the ground, obliterating a large part of Varrock in a single blow. The gods of Gielinor all appear and begin fighting off the hoards of hostile mobs. Notably missing are Zamorak and Zaros. Seren questions where her brother is in this most important time and that he cannot be up to any good. Kerapac mentions that the Mahjarrat god is missing as well. You mention your encounter with Zamorak earlier. Seren says that Zamorak may be looking to confront Xau-Tak himself. Kerapac urges you to investigate while they try to keep Gielinor in one piece.
You travel back to Teragard and approach the Schism to find Zamorak in front laughing. You yell at him to stop, that he doesn't realize what he's dealing with. He takes the Staff and siphons off energy from the Schism. Growing in power more, he turns to you and exclaims that you've made a terrible mistake coming here, that at last, he is to make his claim of superiority. With Saradomin gone, Zamorak can at last rise as the supreme god of Gielinor, in nobody's shadow. You exclaim that everyone must unite right now, to stop Xau-Tak. Zamorak laughs and says Xau-Tak is a pretender and he, Zamorak, will become Elder God and rule the universe! He begins siphoning the Schism once more. Zamorak shouts: "Feel the surging energy that envelops you. It cannot be stopped and shall devour you. And this is Xau-Tak."

Zaros appears and tells Zamorak that he still hasn't learned as his old pupil. Zamorak laughs and says soon he will be stronger than even Zaros. Zaros says it is his birthright to become Elder God, not Zamorak, and no one is going to stand in his way. Zaros reveals an item in his possession that he calls The Template. It is an Elder artifact that he claims lays out the blueprint of the Universe, and it can also create anima. He says he is going to use it to fashion the universe how he sees fit, and that Zamorak will surrender. Zamorak takes the Staff of Armadyl, maniacally laughs, and launches a beam at Zaros. Zaros uses the Template to launch a beam back, and the fight is on! During the fight, tendrils of Xau float out of the Schism and the player must fight them and avoid the powerful blows of Zaros and Zamorak. Alas, Zaros hurls a powerful blow at Zamorak that sends him teetering towards the edge of the Schism...
Zamorak stops himself before falling, but you suddenly become taken over by Sliske who laughs and says "Oh, this WILL be too much fun, won't it?" and hurls The Mirror at Zamorak. As you snap back to reality, you realize Zamorak, along with the Mirror and the Staff of Armadyl are hurling into the Schism. Zaros yells "NO!" at the artifacts falling in and casts a beam with the Template at the artifacts in a bid to somehow rescue them. As Zamorak and the artifacts are consumed by the Schism, black tentacles wrap their way up the energy beam and around the Template and consume Zaros.

In a brilliant and explosive blast, the Schism is gone...Zamorak is gone...the Staff, the Mirror, and the Template are gone...and what stands in the wake is a combined figure of Zaros and Xau-Tak...who calls himself Xauros. Laughing triumphantly, he announces to all of Teragard and the World Guardian that he has alas attained Elder Godhood, and that soon, very soon...the Universe and all in it will be his, as it should be. He then teleports away.
You return to Seren and inform her of the bad news. Mortified, she now knows that it is going to take everything and everyone to stop her brother. You and she decide to visit Jas, who is already aware of what has happened. Jas has feared this and wonders if this is the threat life poses to them. Jas says that the Elder Halls must be reconstructed and the next Great Revision must occur, or all of existence could be lost. Seren cries that their must be another way, and Jas says there is none and throws you both out. Seren laments that it cannot end this way, and you say it can't...it can't, no matter what, it can't...

Part 3: The Will of Guthix

In this finale quest, the war to save Gielinor is already at full force. At the start of this quest, Seren directs you to all the leaders of the world to form an alliance. It takes a bit of manuevering, but you are able to complete the biggest alliance ever seen in a bid to take on the machinations of the Elder Gods. You also work with the Wizards and Dark Wizards to close portals opened up to stop the hordes coming in. Slowly, by slowly, the efforts are making an effect. You get to lead campaigns in several major cities, which take considerable damage. (Remember, you can return to the undamaged "safe" world by Interacting with the Needle Remnants.) You also work with Kerapac on using the Measure to find the best location for a new Elder Halls. As you find the best location, the Measure is destroyed and its dust is used to santify the new Elder Halls location. Seren announces that she and her elves will begin gathering reources for the new Elder Halls and that you will be called upon when needed. She hopes that a new Great Revision can be averted, but if the alternative is her brother ruling the Universe, it must happen.
