I know some of you don't browse Runescape on social media outside of the forums, so I decided to make this thread to spread the news. Mod Stu is working on more quests to improve. There's a straw poll on reddit for people to vote which quest they'd like improved. (It's a select all that apply poll, so it's really about not voting for quests you don't want changed.)

The poll was created a day ago, so you'll have to dig a little to find it. Alternatively, you can find it on Mod Stu's twitter. Of course, he's already started working on the top pick, Heroes' Quest, so it might be too late to vote. Nonetheless, I thought some of you would still like to know about this, and we can still use this thread to provide suggestions in case he decides to work on any of the other quests in the future.

From least supported to most supported here are the results:

Monk's Friend

Priest in Peril

Pirate's Treasure

Jungle Potion

Nature Spirit

The Knight's Sword

Gertrude's Cat

Recruitment Drive

Clock Tower

Vampyre Slayer

Plague City

Imp Catcher <- Has since been updated

Heroes' Quest <- Has since been updated

-------------------

And here are my thoughts on each of them:

Quests that are perfectly fine, generally noncontroversial, and don't need refining:

Jungle Potion
Nature Spirit
The Knight's Sword
Gertrude's Cat
Plague City
---------------------

Quests that I think could use a teensy tweaking:

Clock Tower: I know a lot of people think this doesn't deserve to be a quest due to its lack of remarkability in the long run. However, I think such niche quests are a fun reminder of our olden days, and since they are so small in number, I don't think they do any harm. Therefore, no big changes. Just up the quest reward, as 500 coins is very little nowadays. Also, free clue scroll watch. He gives one when you approach him with a coord clue scroll, but giving it now will feel more rewarding.
The legendary creators have been long gone from this world. When they return, they'll be surprised and angered of their creations' new sapience. Meanwhile, the world's most elite, summoned to be its guardians, have abandoned their purpose and intend to plunge the world into chaos. -- Bionicle or RS?

Monk's Friend: Should be kept for same reason as Clock Tower. Instead of 8 law runes as quest reward, give a law talisman. (or both)

Pirate's Treasure: Make it so Wydin can actually pay us for working. Or at least fire us. Making our connection just hang there feels awkward and unfinished.

----------------------------------------------------

Quests that can benefit from some actual refining:

Vampyre Slayer: Pretty uneventful quest. Unlike Monk's Friend, this quest hypes itself up a bit, where your life is in mortal danger, and an entire village hangs in the balance.
In the actual quest: talk to Morgan -> get some garlic if you want -> go to Dr. Harlow in Varrock -> buy him some beer -> go to Count Draynor -> kill him -> return to Morgan.
That's it? I thought vampyres were supposed to be cool!
Not only is it a surprisingly dull quest, but its completion isn't really worthwhile. It's not required for anything besides a desert task, and besides qp and th, its only reward is atk exp.
Finally, everybody wants some more LOAR. How did Draynor get here, and what's his relationship with other vampyres? And what's with the stake and hammer, and petrifying upon death? Our vampyres are different.

Recruitment Drive: Some might find the female only requirement sexist, but I think it's a fun little riddle that's better off staying. The statues in Lady Table's challenge can be updated to newer armour models and weapons. Sir Kuam Ferentse's challenge takes a long time with EoC, as you can't use weapons and a fix would be nice. The fox's avatar in Sir Spishysus could use a graphical update. Miss Cheevers' chemistry challenge is too obscure for the average player, and pretty much requires a guide.

Imp Catcher: Supposed to be a loooong quest, that you chip away every once in a while, but can be instantly completed with GE. Regardless of what you think of the 1st aspect, the 2nd feels unfair. I'm pretty meh on changing or keeping the length of the quest though.

Priest in Peril: While super immersive, this quest has the same flaws as the rest of the Myreque series. Fetch quest, too much backtracking, and vague guiding. You start the quest in Varrock, travel to the temple, go back to Varrock, and back to the temple. Plus, at the end you have to get 50 rune essence, meaning another 2 trips. You can instead use 25 pure essence, but according to dialogue transcript on wiki, this is never mentioned. Also, Drezel tells you to kill a Zamorak monk to get a key. But the key doesn't work, and Drezel gives no hints on what to do next. What you have to do is travel to the mausoleum, find a key on a statue, swap the key with the one in your inv, and use the new key to free Drezel. Not intuitive enough imo. Another problem is that you're obviously tricked into helping the Zamorakian monks, which is somewhat insulting to the player. Also, even though they don't let you inside the temple on your 1st visit, they're perfectly fine with you entering and freeing Drezel on your 2nd? Finally, you're given the ability to ally yourself with Zamorak, but this prevents you from making progress in the quest. This goes against the idea of allowing players to choose factions.

Heroes' Quest: Imo, the multiplayer aspect of the quest keeps it unique, but this is already being worked on, so oh well. My problem is how vague the task to acquire the ice gloves is. All you're told is that they're with the Queen of the Ice, who lives somewhere icey. Unlike the other tasks of the quest, this isn't something you'll come across while playing the game normally. There are several icey regions in the game, some of which are really dangerous. Asgarnian Ice Dungeon? Mammoth iceberg?? Trollheim/God Wars dungeon??? Frozen Waste Plateau???? A player shouldn't be recommended into exploring lvl 50 Wildy for an experienced quest. It turns out you're supposed to go inside White Wolf Mountain, which you've never been inside before, and therefore could never have known.

Also graphic update for ice warriors and ice queen pls.

So there you go. What quests do you think need refining? And in what way?

I love the idea of reworking older quests.

Heroes Quest always seemed a bit odd to me, since the Ice Queen and that stuff isn't really explained in lore.

I would love Vampyre Slayer to incorporate more Rauntun. Maybe make it more relatable to the Myreque series.

Basically all the low level quests that you can complete in 20 mins, I would enjoy if they were made more memorable somehow, or left open ended for sequels and such.

Stu started work on the Heroes' Quest improvements yesterday. One of the main issues I have with Heroes' Quest currently is that it doesn't really have much of a plot, it's just a "fetch these random three items". There are some very minor and obscure things it hints towards, but it never expands on them.

Some stuff I'd like to see added/changed:

-The location of the Ice Queen's lair should be made more obvious in the High Priest's dialogue.
- The story of the hero who stole the ice gloves from the Ice Queen in order to catch an Entranan firebird as a pet should be expanded on. The Ice Queen herself should get some backstory too, currently she's kind of just there. Maybe there could be an NPC (maybe a Snow Imp?) at the campfire at top of White Wolf Mountain who reveals that the Ice Queen is the exiled older sister of the Queen of Snow, and that in the past, Camorra stole a pair of gloves from her.
-The bug introduced with the White Wolf Mountain rework that lets you skip the 55 Mining requirement with the help of a friend should either be removed, or left in as a feature.
-After giving players the Dusty key for the first time, Velrak the explorer should leave his cell and relocate to the entrance of Taverley Dungeon.
-Charlie the cook says that Mr Olbors owns the house behind the Shimp and Parrot. Despite this, Cap'n Arnav actually resides in said building. Whether or not Arnav and Olbors are seperate characters should probably be addressed, or the dialogue changed.
You never were our brightest star, Khazard. 'Vermin slaughtered like lambs'? What does that even mean?

The main change I want to see to Recruitment Drive is something that Stu discussed, which is removing Druidic Ritual as a requirement. Stu asked if a hard Herblore requirement would be a good replacement, and I like that. Make simply require 3 Herblore, since that's the level you would be at once you finish Druidic Ritual anyway. This gives players the option to either just do Druidic Ritual to get that level, or reach that level through training or other means.

Although, that's not really a rework, since it's just a change in requirements. I'm fond of the suggestion to rework the Camelot series as Temple Knights quests.

The thing is, that would make little narrative sense. The Temple Knights are highly secretive and based in Asgarnia, wouldn't really make sense for them to have such a huge public presence in Kandarin. And it would kind of ruin the motivations for Lathas and the Sinclairs - the whole point is they were upset their father gave their castle to some heroes who seemingly came from nowhere. The Temple Knights don't really fit that bill.

I don't get why Camelot is such a big problem anyway - I don't see any reason why RuneScape can't have a King Arthur, although I'm definitely in favour of changing their backstory to remove the references to real life. Jagex wouldn't be able to get away with renaming Camelot and Excalibur without lots of people complaining anyway.

You're interpreting his comment too literally; the Temple Knights wouldn't have to be the ones in control of the castle for them to be involved.

I could definitely see the series reworked to be espionage-themed. Could be that the Temple Knights are attempting to engineer events in Kandarin to keep Saradominism dominant in the region, or something along those lines. Their spy network likely covers almost all human civilizations, so their involvement wouldn't be a stretch at all.
Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.
