I respect his acknowledgement of his failings, but actions speak louder than words. He's going to need to make up for his atrocious behavior at the end of WE2 with more than just sweet talking.
he killed a dude who didn't exactly deserve to stay alive, what's not to love?

The idea that someone fighting for peace must never be willing to go to war is silly. Allow me to quote a webcomic for emphasis.
"I'm willing but... isn't it better to learn about people? Find out WHY they're fighting and work things out?"
"I'm being attacked by a fire goo griffin right now. What are you going to do about it?"
"Please stop, fire goo griffin! Let's work this out! What are your hopes and dreams!?"
"The fire goo griffin has literally just eaten my arm and is absorbing it to make itself five times as deadly and dangerous."
Sometimes violence must be used to bring peace. Anyone who thinks otherwise is full of naivety.
