Zaros was able to claim the gate because Guthix was sleeping. If Guthix were awake, his scouting parties would not have been allowed to find it.
This means that the World Gate would have gone to whoever defeats Guthix.

Guthix was asleep during the time period Zaros/Loarnab acquired the gate. Fighting/defeating Guthix plays no part in that.

Same goes for the stone. Guthix hid it so as not to leave it lying around when he slumbered. Without the slumber the stone would be somewhere in his possession.

Wait, why exactly wouldn't Guthix have still slept through the 2nd and 3rd ages? Yeah, he wouldn't be t2, but that really doesn't influence his opinion that mortals should live apart from gods (which, according to Seren was one of the key reasons that Guthix withdrew from the world). There is little reason he wouldn't have slept as he did in both the DoD universe and our own.

And Bandos would have gone to Gielinor, because it was extremely close to Yu'Biusk and without a T2 Guthix' protection it would've been ripe for the picking. The battles going on were just what was needed to make him ignore the risk, not draw his attention.

That still doesn't change the fact that despite you praising Bandos's skill in combat, the guy only ever choose to fight if it was against somebody or something that he was sure he could defeat (his ill and crippled father, a young child, an old nomad, a god that could/would not fight back, and Fossil). He did not confront the adventurer and Zanik when we were in his very throne room, and Zarador exposes (post TMF) that during WE2 (the only time we know of Bandos fighting somebody near his level of power) that Bandos had been doubting himself and regretting his past actions during this time.

Bandos's strength was his mind and his armies not fighting.

His slumber had nothing to do with isolating himself from his followers, it was to lessen the strain he placed on Gielinor's anima and instead help manage it to the benefit of Gielinor.

Without Seren, Guthix wouldn't even know that anima exists, so he would have no reason to slumber.

Seren memorium crystal 09:

Guthix has gone to slumber in order to mitigate the drain on this world as best he can, but also to leave his humans to their own devices.

Guthix during TWW:

I should have seen it coming. I introduced them to the world, I had a power greater than they had ever seen. The mortal races began to worship me. They built shrines to me, made sacrifices. They waited on my every word. It pained me deeply to see myself becoming what I had always loathed. They should not have been living beneath me, serving me. I wanted them to be free, balanced, to make their own decisions. Knowing my presence was thwarting my efforts, I withdrew into the earth, to sleep.

I think the biggest issue is that there might not be much of a Gielinor left. Tuska could easily have arrived before Guthix was woken up and established the Edicts given Zamorak wouldn't be around to wake him. "The greatest endeavors are achieved because of their selfless intent"
