I am proposing a new exploration skill, spellunking. This would be about exploring in general, anything from dungeons, caves, seas, etc.
You could fit something similar to the dungeoneering skill and sailing into a skill like this, as it would fit the mold. I don';t really want to get too detailed with it, but what you would get out of the skill would be some near gear or gear upgrades (probably the later option).
Since we don't want to make things overpowered, I would suggest making add-ons which make gear against certain types of enemies, so there's many variants. Think along the lines of twisted bow, but for defensive gear as well. Something that helps against specific types of foes, but is like paper against other types of foes. Same for weapons. Like how the twisted bow is good against high magic attack, some kind of scalable effect, so it is trash against some monsters, but good against others.
