I think it is maybe problematic to blanket all players by labels like "skillers" "PVMers" "PKers." While many do identify strictly under those labels, many of us like to enjoy most if not all game content. I like to skill, quest, slay, PVM, occasionally "main" PK, a little of everything. It is important not to generalize, which the above post sort of does.
It is even more incoherent to claim that one perceived label "keeps the game going" more than another. It is all integral and labeling players as "new" and "old" is a similar issue. I have friends who started about a year ago, on RS3, who came to OSRS and are happily playing as "main" accounts, engaging in a wide range of game content. So, maybe the issues are not always as they appear to us but more so just that - how we perceive them.
So perhaps it is more important to be critical of the way we perceive things, rather than single-out and finger-point labels that we think are the rooting to these 'problems.'
