A new tree would be added all over Gielinor called the Birch Tree. It would require 25 Woodcutting to chop down, and can be used for three things: you can use Crafting in the mid-30s range to make regular Staves, or higher level Fletching on P2P to scrape off the papery bark (more on that at the end), as well as your usual Firemaking (level 25) uses. Birch trees, their logs, and the staves would be free-to-play, of course. The Birch Paper, being a Fletching product, would only be available on member's servers.
Once you've crafted a Birch Staff, you can take them, along with 50 Air, Water, Earth or Fire Runes, 50 Mind Runes, and 50 Body Runes, to the respective Runecraft altar to imbue them into basic elemental staves. This would give appropriate XP for its level and cost, not being game-breaking at all ideally. Imbuing a staff would require n + 17 Runecraft levels to craft, where n = the level required to make a basic elemental rune (so Air Staves would require 18 Runecraft, Water Staves would require 23 Runecraft, and so on).
Lastly, Birch Paper would be a pay-to-play item that would be used to craft Scrolls of Redirection, to reduce reliance on NMZ (a goal the team has had for sometime). This process would involve Runecraft in the mid-50s/early 60s, and require a modest sum of Cosmic, Law and Astral Runes.
So that's it, just a small update. Even if none of the content is added, the graphics on those sets of staves really ought to get looked at, much like Dramen Staves were not too long ago.
