How about rework skills that are too AFK. Like fishing, cooking, firemaking in RS3, woodcutting and increase the reward chances in game.
So for example in fishing, instead of clicking spots near the shore why not put random areas in a circle. Each click could take 3-10 seconds depending on the level. The higher the level of your fishing, the longer it takes for the spot to relocate. This means that the fishing spot would be different for each player. Also, the higher the level, the higher the chance of getting 2-3 fishes. The chance part will make skilling more fun. More clicks but more rewards.
In firemaking, revert it to the old version then add the chance mechanics. Chance to burn 2 logs in 1 fire but bigger.
In cooking, add the chance of making "SPECIAL DISH" which is more delicious in the description and adds more health when eaten. It's like a shiny version in pokemon. The higher the level, the higher the chance of making the special dish.
In woodcutting, add a bar on top of each tree. Instead of the tree disappearing, why not encourage more interaction to it. The bar on top of the tree will have an axe running back and forth and the player will click it then the icon pops then another axe appears. The faster the consecutive correct clicks on the axe icon will give more logs.
Giving the chance or the more reward system with more clicks will make players play the game and not just afk then altab. It should not be too intensive but it should have that BEAT feeling when clicking. Add rhythm to the clicks, it will be fun. You can also add breathing time for players to chat for a while.
