Right now the Lava Battlestaff is something of a joke. It has practically no uses outside of the elite clue, is much easier to obtain than the other combo-staves, and basically gets treated as an extra 600gp on the alch.
Content Suggestion: Given the relative ease of obtaining the staff I don't think it needs a ton of use options, but I'd like to see one: Create a lunar spell requiring some quantity of fire, earth, and astral runes (5-5-1 maybe?) that lights the burner in a POH without the need for Marrentill.
This would be a fairly fringe use case only typically used by those who use their house to host/use Gilded Altar, and for Iron men. Given the cost of the runes, it's less cost effective than buying the marrentills, but gives the added convenience of not having to stock up on a low tier, 25gp herb for high tier content (assuming the person lighting built the gilded altar). And it also gives a use to a sadly out of place staff.
Current inventory setup for an ironman offering bones on their own gilded altar is (optimal):
Dust Battlestaff, Law Runes, Tinderbox, 2 Marrentills, and 24 bones on regular spellbook.
This would offer (at the cost of astrals & house tabs) the option to use Lava Battlestaff, Astrals, House Tab, and 26 bones on lunar spellbook PLUS the ability to avoid collecting/farming low level herbs at a high level.
