If one could be sufficiently warned about the realities of teleportation, one would not partake in the act. Yet every day dozens, if not hundreds, of people teleport across Gielinor. For the past few days I’ve felt an immense level of resentment for the population of this planet, for my peers, and for my tutors. Fortunately, my rage has quelled and I seem to have regained my faculties, enough to analyse my experience.

Something commonplace and diabolical has eluded my attention; I guess that I am not quite as observant as I am gifted. I joined the Order of Wizards as an apprentice very recently. I was scouted and admitted swiftly due to my natural affinity with runes and the weak spells you can produce while untrained.

I was noticed by Aubury, the rune store’s shopkeep. Initially I would visit once a fortnight and over time the frequency of my visits rose until it was almost daily, occasionally neglecting to eat to afford the expense. I guess curiosity got the better of him as he asked for what reason I was purchasing small quantities of mind, body, and elemental runes with the pittance I earned handing out fliers and sweeping the sawmill just outside of the city. I told him it was just to practise and his interest was piqued. He told me that not everyone can “just practise”, I must be gifted to cast spells without any tuition. Aubury did me a great favour and would occasionally contribute runes to practise with, free of charge, so I would not have to forgo eating.
