Race as a construct is written within the Runescape rules [1]. Race itself is socially constructed both in Runescape [2] and in real life.
Because race is inscribed within the written rules of Runescape, the rules of Runescape
take
a political stance. Race is has also been written within the laws of society and has been for hundreds of years[3].
The paradigm that race is biologically constructed is a weak arguement that has a politcal precedent [4]. The story telling in the game is racialized[4.1]. A lot of the stories pre-date the more contemporary conversations of race, gender, and ethnicity[5]. Another person posted here stating that race doesn't belong within the game. But, truly they only want it to not exist in the game when it's inconvenient to their narrative.
As I've clearly demonstrated, race does exist within Runescape. I think that in order to have more depth and breadth to their story telling, they will have to step up their game or get left behind. The characters Zeri and Neon have both been acknowledged to be based on Filipino culture. K'Sante from League of Legends is gay. Overwatch's entire cast are related to real world countries. It's only a matter of time before the Jagex writing team gets better and more inclusive. US softpower exists and the US is steadily becoming a majority minority. If they want to story tell and innovate, they would be foolish to not include one of their largest player bases.
