"As of today’s update, Mining the Duke’s Salt deposits for more than five minutes will tire you out and cause you to stop for a breather."

Duke mining nerfed. Cause us to "stop for a breather"? Reminds me of Sleeping Bag.

This hurts humans more than bots.

so again...

it had nothing to do with bots

They could have just nerfed the xp rate to 0.01 xp per click or make them depleted so players have to go mine any pillar often, if they didn't intend Duke mining to be a training method.

Agree with Tenebri - Duke Sucellus is meant to be a bossing encounter, not a replacement for a skilling method.

I don't see this as any kind of big loss, instead just making things the way they were intended. The fact that people were able to start mining there, put something on their keyboard and walk away from their computer for 6 hours while gaining 60k mining xp is 100% not how Jagex intended things to be. If you are ingame, its expected that you are actually present at your computer playing the game, not walking away for hours at a time.

Its no different than Jagex patching 6 hour splashing or 6 hour NMZ (now, you can be in combat continuously for 20 minutes before your player will stop auto retaliating and eventually log out). Its also no different than when Jagex opted to remove the ability to trade at the ZMI altar a few years ago because allowing trading there meant the XP rates were much higher than the rates that were polled in the original devblog.

There are still many viable ways to train mining of different intensities. Those that want to as efficient as possible may choose to do 3 tick granite which is very intensive. Those that want a little bit more less intensive may enjoy upper level of Motherlode Mine instead.

For what its worth, there was also a social media post that they were looking at a change to shooting stars, though it wouldn't be 6 hour AFK. Copied with attribution below:

"After the Duke mining nerf, the community asked if we could improve existing low-intensity mining methods. In the future, we'll change Shooting Stars to no longer deplete faster if other players are mining them."

The issue is they should not have given us xp for Duke Mining if they didn't intend it to be a method for training mining. There are plenty of similar situations where we have to use skill(s) to progress but there were never issues because they didn't give reasonable xp.

If this isn't a nerf, then perhaps we can consider it a fix to poor and confusing design that cause players to think it is new skilling method.

Big loss for bots today. Not a loss for humans. Human miners can still mine amethyst and motherlode for faster xp that doesn't require a lot of attention.

Physical automation is still automation. Taping down spacebar while you sleep is against the rules.

Yes, that would be against the Rules of RuneScape

that can help you play the game with the software or hardware doing things for you that you should be doing yourself. Our games are meant to be played by humans - if you cheat, you are likely to be banned, even if it is the first time you have broken the rules.

...

If you have any doubt that something you are thinking of using could be considered breaking this rule our advice is to not use it. Play the game yourself, making sure you are in control of everything. It is simply not worth taking the risk.

Applying a plugin with one of the prohibited features to an approved client can still get you banned. The same applies for:
- auto-typers/clickers
- binding multiple keys to 1 key
- moving the cursor to a specific location upon keypress
- keyboard auto-repeat
- game mouse/keyboard macro’s
- oscillating fans
- training a crow
- a dippy bird mechanic
- taping your keys down

Any neat contraption that is not you providing input can be picked up a macroing, and no, pictures of a ruler strapped to a fan will not get you unbanned.
Don't forget – RuneScape members get TWO free spins a day instead of the usual one!
