This scam is on-going; even two years after the initial post.

I reported so many accounts and used the "report bug" feature to give details of how the scammers were working.

A few months ago the Mods did start appearing in front of the ge to try and catch him. However, i don't think they - and nor do i - have figured out the times the scammer logs in, which specific worlds he hops to, and for how long he stays, because any time we're waiting for him he is a no-show.

Does anyone know more about if he's showing any consistent patterns?

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW: I've labeled him the "Giveaway Scammer", and this is what happens in RS3.

1. he appears at the south side of the ge ((not always the exact same spot, but usually never more than 5 steps away from the bank))

2. spams a message, over and over, along these lines, "the next 25 players that pm me will be entered in a giveaway from 250m" OR "to enter the 250mil giveaway go to my YouTube [insert-scammer-YT-un-here]" ((the numbers can vary and the usernames vary depending on if their other accounts have been banned already or not ))

3. when you search the YouTube name it brings you to a new account with very few subscribers and only one video.

4. if you watch the video it's the SAME video. a very old - probably stolen - video from a OSRS player that has his bank open to show a lot of party hats, and the voice-over says he's quitting and giving away his stuff.

5. the youtube video description will encourage you to enter the giveaway by clicking a link in the comments section. ((usually the link has been "loved" by the creator, so it will be pinned to the top. don't bother trying to warn others it's a scam in the comments, he'll just delete it.

6. if you do press the link ((I SUGGEST YOU DON'T!!!) you will be taken to a fake runescape forum. be asked to "login", and then you're rs3 account will be stolen and the scammer will change your password... meaning....................... that the person scamming on rs3 right at that moment is using the account of the last unfortunate player that fell for the scam... :( ((which is why if you Examine thew in-game scammer they will have normal/high skilling levels, and have expensive items equipped. that account is not a bot, but use to belong to a player.))

WHAT YOU CAN DO!

1. report the comment with the link, the youtube video, and the youtube channel

2. report the in-game player in RS3 for breaking the following rules:
- Scamming
- Player-run games of chance
- Macroing or use of bots ((because even though this account was stolen from a real player, it's still probably been turned into a bot to run by itself))
- Advertising websites
- Asking for or providing contact information
- Encouraging rule breaking
- Buying or selling an account ((because he WILL be selling that stolen account and/or selling the items in that account's bank on the black market))

3. don't be the one going on these black-market sites and buying accounts, items, or runecoins, or gp. you risk getting your account banned, but worse you encourage them to continue stealing accounts from others because.......... you're technically PAYING them to. Stop it!!!

Make sure to send a report by right clicking the chat message they sent ingame. A good report category is 'advertising websites'. If you're unable to report the player ingame, you can instead email and they will investigate the account.

You can help Jagex take down the website by reporting the link at Phishing report centre !

QUICK UPDATE:

The "Giveaway Scammer" is at the Halloween Event today, in the Pestilence Event (west side of Draynor Mansion).

Saying, "First 25 Players Get 500M-1B! Youtube [redacted] to join."|

DON'T CLICK ON THE LINK. It leads you to a fake Runescape Forum where to "log in" then have your account stolen.

You posted a suspect hack site to warn people yet you posted the whole URL. Either you are trying to hack people or you were trying to warn people. Either way both your post here and on another thread have been removed. This is to Protect peoples accounts for clicking the url and getting hacked.

2 posts removed. 1 on here and 1 elsewhere.

The scam is now also at the Spring event, at world 84, wich is quite busy. I reported the account in Runescape, and flagged the youtube account, as well as the comment wich leads you to a forged RS forum lookalike. Report as much as I can against these account, as they ruin the game experience. Have a good day adventurer, and the best of luck to you!
