I was hoping the awesome OSRS community could bring me up to speed on some of the new activities that have come out in recent years.

Perhaps I can summarize the new OSRS activities in recent years:

Restart, start, restart and pay extra membership.

That's right! Most of the recent activities require extra membership even for existing members. For instance, Ironman Mode must be restarted from scratch with new accounts and therefore new membership. Even more so for Group Ironman. There is also Fresh Start World where everybody must make a new account and restart, so to be a FSW member, you will have to pay extra money.

There are also events like Leagues and Deadman Mode. Again, you know the drill...restart your character.

There is also a Quest Speedrunning Mode. It is HUGE (according to some OSRS streamer). You restart as a new character with fixed stats and items there and just repeatedly doing some old quests and trying to beat the clock. Oh yes, perhaps you are so HUGE because typically you are one of the 2 or 3 players on an entire QSR world.

That's pretty much it. Every major content in recent years has the same restart, restart and pay extra OSRS membership theme, even for 10 years maxed OSRS veteran players.

It's a bit odd what they've chosen to bring back or not. My biggest complaint is that they brought back soul wars, but not stealing creation. I get that the rewards would be a problem, but lots of minigames have had thier rewards system remade. Bring back stealing creation!

They brought back Soul Wars mostly because of their Partnership initiative with Prime Gaming. OSRS just sold out exclusive Early Access Beta servers exclusively for Prime. It was MTX driven. ;)

Has Jagex shown any signs of restoring those lost multiplayer technologies, like loot share and clan citadels? I see them working on new content, like Desert Treasure 2.
They have tried multiple times to get the loot share past the votes, but they did it wrong, so none of them got accepted. I do not remember which one that was first, but they had stated they would poll it last, and it was obvious that they did not want it, but it was highly supported in the forum, so they polled it first instead. It almost passed but failed, so they did the second one and did the one people hated most last, thinking that if the first two did not pass, we would have to accept it even though we knew it was being used unfairly. It was soundly defeated and we begged they do the first one again as a last chance, the way they had originally posted they would.

Clan citadels were something that was in the game because of "clanscape", the idea that people should be rewarded for other people's work. That is why dung became a minigame instead of a skill it was forced into becoming in rs3.

Adding more to the "new" OSRS activities.., Account Build content.

Since OSRS doesn't have much content, and is not adding anything actually new, they flirt around with enticing players to build multiple accounts with different builds. For example, they replaced Duel Arena with Emir's Arena and we now use custom account build profiles instead of our real character profile. Mod Ash further sold us custom loadout of other account build projects. They even had some project they called "Official" Account Build but it failed the poll.

In a nutshell, all the "new" OSRS activities aren't for returning playes as they all ignore our progress.
