Time to break my usual silence on the forums and add my own two pennorth.
Now, Jagex is a company and the purpose of a company is to make money. I accept that; no problem. I like RS, and absolutely love the quests and have no problem with the idea of buying stuff to keep the staff in work. I am led to wonder if updates like this are the best use of their time, though.
Full disclosure: I've spent money at this store, and a month or two ago I bought SoF spins two or three times, but had to stop myself when I realised I was getting dangerously close to feeding one of my old compulsive behaviours. Especially since buying a second or third round of spins was easily accomplished with a few mouse clicks -- just had to enter my card's three-digit security code.
The problem I have with all this is that it's all too easy to have a moment of weakness and spend far more money than one intended. Sure, nobody's put a gun to my head and actually FORCED me to make these purchases. At the same time nobody forces people at knife-point to go into the bookie's and put fifty quid on the horses. But in both cases the vendor is, I think, in danger of enabling rash decisions like that. I'm not sure how an issue like this could be addressed -- a further check before making the purchase?
