Why do you all care so much if Jagex is selling pointless in-game "upgrades"? As long as they don't give any sort of advantage I think it's okay to contribute any unaccounted income to the game I love. I'm very disappointed of the upcoming Evolution of Combat update, however, because that is game-breaking and is changing the game that's been using the same combat system since its debut. I'm hoping to enjoy the game for just a bit longer before the actual update to be complaining about comes and spoils it for many veterans. Updates like these shouldn't be seen as the bait for new players. At least this one doesn't spoil the experience for older players.

In Response to Wafflemaste0,
Yes, I know that all 200 million accounts aren't active. However, the sheer fact that so many have accumulated is proof that Runescape is a popular and has a continuously growing user base.
My point was that, with so many subscribers joining every day, coupled with the drastic 60% price increase from 5 USD to 8 USD, it hardly seems *necessary* for Jagex to add something such as this.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I read this in the FAQ:
"Why are you charging for items?
The new Customisation System requires a lot more development effort per item, and we're also taking longer when making the content to make sure it's extra special. By charging for the items themselves it means we don't pass on these costs on to those who aren't interested in using them."
Basically, how I understand this is that they're saying that it's either this, or everyone pays a greater recurring fee for membership.
Let's consider that, for the resources required to make this accessible in-game, the combat update, and various other recent updates, Jagex decides to increase the membership fee to 9.99 USD every month (it is extremely unlikely that this update alone, no matter how intensive, would warrant an increase in the recurring fee, especially taking the combat update into the equation). For the sake of clean numbers, I'll round that number up to 10. After 20 months, a player would have spent 200.00 USD on the game.
If you then look at the current price of membership (7.99 USD, rounded to an even 8), then the cost of the most expensive item in the store, the assassin's pack for 1800 Runecoins (~40.00 USD; F2P), the net amount a player would have paid in 20 months is also 200.00 USD.
Assuming that people who tend to buy items from stores such as these also tend to be more consistent subscribers (I have no data to back this, but it seems logical to me), then it’s a good investment for those players.
(Continued)

If Jagex chose the former option, to raise membership to 9.99 USD, then it would be detrimental to the players who don’t really want to use all of the shiny cosmetics (who really wants to mine with their head?), strongly discourage newer players from subscribing for the first time, and cause a large amount of players to quit or unsubscribe due to yet another increase in price.
Therefore, rather than increasing the price of membership because of all the new content, they’ve decided to pull in the rest in the extra funds that they need through this shop, for anyone who is willing to buy from it. If someone spends 40.00 USD in the shop within 20 months, then that person has essentially paid 10.00 USD/month. If someone spends 80.00 USD in the shop within 20 months, then that person has paid the extra 2.00 USD/month not only for him or herself but also for his or her fellow Runescape player, who did*’t really want any of that content.
If you look at it from that perspective isn’t it better that Jagex releases a store such as this? Since all of the products are cosmetic, people who don’t spend aren’t missing out, and the players who really do want those items are really saving in the long run, as well as keeping the price down for everyone else.
Well, I started this post out ready to start bashing the program, but I was once again foiled by logical thinking. Damn it.

Nice, now if the store will load and let me look at them, I'll be happy.
I'll be more happy when you give us new hairstyles.
Scene/emo hair, long hair that isn't crap fallout looking.
This game is all about fashion thanks. ;)

I came here to post to once again (like it pretty much seems everyone else thinks about these updates) how disappointed I am in these pathetic 'sell-out' updates.
After reading the "better it costs people who want it, then people who don't" line, I can tolerate it. Personally, I still think its a load of garbage line to justify lining your pockets (on your logic, every game update is worthy of you guys charging for....), but as long as it doesn't negatively effect the loyal players who have actually supported your game over the years, I guess it is tolerable.
Rather than put time (AND charge us money for it) into effectively 'nothing' updates that do NOTHING to improve the game experience, how about you just allocate the resources to stuff that matters? Once again, your pockets > your loyal players.
But most importantly, as many other people have said, man up, draw the line on how low you are willing to seek to a level that is at least tolerable and remove the 'game-unbalancing' load of *expressive word for poo* content that is Squeal of Fortune.
Cheap-skates can be liked, selfish 'me-first' cheap-skates will always be pathetic.

Sorry,
I really like the Solomon's Store and almost bought some.
But the problem is that i don't like the female graphics in the Beta.
And i am afraid if i buy now, i will regret it later.

I find it amazing that all Jagx want to do is F up the game that we all love. Yeah the company was sold and now we, the loyal fans, are dealing with fools that are only looking at the bottom line and asking how can they get more profits.
Get rid of the micro-transaction system and keep the subscription based system that has been going strong for the past 10+ years. Trying to work both of these will kill this game. This game has been around for ages and has survived...ever wonder why? No one ****** off their fans. They listened to the fans.
Maybe if you listen to your fans and update game play content, you might make more players want to be members. I know totally wide thought there, listening to your fans. I mean what do they know about it? Oh wait, some of us have been involved in this game longer then you and without us there is no game
