I was about to rant a bit, just like when SOF was released, but then it hit me. It doesn't make a difference anyways, so i altered my point of view a bit. I'm actually quite glad about this now. People with real money to throw around will use this shop, giving Jagex some cash (well i hope Jagex actually gets any of it) to put it back into the game, so to say. Meaning, more quality updates (am i being naive?).
So, let's say you're one of those people who will probably never use this feature, and are a little unsatisfied with the fact that some people might look flashier just because they have deeper pockets, and this will create 'labeling' among players, truth be told, it already exists, it always has and it always will.
I for once, don't really care what a pixelated stranger has to say about me over a game, but sadly this does not apply to all.
Just try looking at this from a different point of view if you're one of the 'non-believers', you might just see reason.
TL;DR: Money spins the wheels, this brings in money, you have to deal with it.

All of you who think that the sof and this "store" are jagex's idea you are severly disillusioned. I have player for 3 1/2 years and I can recognize jagex's style. The blame lies most likely with jagex's investors. They want more money and they supply jagex with alot of thier funds. Blame the investors not jagex.

Anyone that is stupid enough to spend £69.99 on an imaginary currency to buy cosmetic enhancements for a character in a computer game is obviously a complete moron.
It has no effect on the game's economy, no one is paying to upgrade their skills, so it's hardly as ridiculous as most F2P models (and they are all ridiculous filthy scams to trap and destroy children) Runescape are simply selling a product, which people aren't forced to buy through any means.
I hear people saying "OMGZ IM GOIN 2 DELETE MY ACOUNT!!1! I WANT MY MONIE BK!!", It's a completely passive addition to the game that you can just ignore so stop whining about it.
If people are stupid enough to spend 24 pounds to make their character look like an assassin then let them, let them fund Jagex so they can provide a better gaming experience for the normal human beings that spend their money on real clothes in real life.

ffs. this game deals heavily on what you look like. i love getting things to match up and be cool. now this. new items (and probably wont stop here) that will be the coolest around. we wanted new content to earn. not buy. ive played for over 5 years now, and it just gets worse.
membership canceled.

If anything the Squeal of Fortune is a much bigger problem since that can actually progress your character's skill and wealth, how is that any better than real world trading? at least you can spend your money on guaranteed items rather than leaving the fate of your money to chance.
