"We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. We feel your status in real-life shouldn't affect your ability to be successful in RuneScape."

Sure, why wouldn't we trust anything that comes out of your mouths.

Surely you understand that new owners can (and often do) change mottos as well as rules and terms of services, etc. once they take over?

Which means we can't trust anything the current Jagex tells us?

To be fair mate, I'd trust a politician over Jagex at this point.

Honestly? I wouldn't trust jagex saying much at this point.. and it has nothing to do with their track record of one lie after another. Not this time.

Business as 'usual' could easily mean they can't say more than what they are saying about anything and while I do believe some of them will deliberately lie.. I think some of them would like to tell the truth.. and currently can't. That is business as usual, in this type of situation.

I'm sure Jagex will keep things the way they are. No company wants to lose customers. As for the mining company who is wanting to buy Jagex, they surely don't want Jagex to lose customers either because they want to make money. If I had invested money in something, surely I would not do anything to make it worse.

Exactly right!
And as Chronicle currently is only in Beta, I believe that the new owners will want to pursue that lead forward and keep runescape as their safe fall back option. Chronicle will be available across platforms so will be very accessible around the world. It also fits in with the Chinese mobile game market valued at approximately $6.5b in 2015. That's one fifth of the entire world.
While Jagex wont be looking for 100% of those users they will be able to attract some. Also, is competing title seems to be doing quite well there.

I'm going to go with "Hmmmm." on this one.

I want to believe that Chronicle will do well, but people said almost the exact same thing about 8Realms (cancelled), Transformers Universe (cancelled), Ace of Spades (last update October 2014), Carnage Racing (peaked at 3 players last month) and Block * Load (still going, but only with a handful of players).

The gaming industry is a fickle place, Jagex don't exactly have a Stellar track record and they're going up against some well established, big names in that corner of the market.

Don't forget Stellar Dawn! (Which got cancelled too)

No, it was merely put on hold until Transformers Universe was released.

Ironically, out of all the games, Stellar Dawn was probably the one with the highest chance of commercial success. Jagex do do MMORPGs well.
