I hope and pray that Runescape and any other game Jagex owns will not go the route of the game Perfect World International.

To see an MMO that still has hope to be at least somewhat original and seems to have a stable population in it...go down that route. Where the game basically starts to get screwed over because they want money.

Because it's change and change is scary and scary is bad.

I'm not too fussed either way. I've been playing this game far too long now; if the purchase ends up killing off the game, I might finally have my excuse to quit.

If not, woo, more RS. Forever... :/

An acquisition?

Are you sure you are using the right word?

Because the use of the word acquistion makes me think most, if not all, ownership will be bought by this Chinese company.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known

This is potentially, horrendously, bad for the game because of the huge possibility of the introduction of MORE MTX than there already are in RS3.

Look at all the other Asian MMOs on the market today. If they're F2P, they are especially prone to having massive amounts of MTX in the game. Maple Story is possibly the best/worst example of MTX in a game.

Would it be awesome if they kept out of all development decisions? Yes. But it's far more likely that they would implement even more than we see now. I love RS3, but it gets a bit tiring to see a MTX promotion nearly every week.

Don't even get me started on OSRS, they're probably not safe if the major owner/investor wants to see higher short term profits. Long term profit (should be) > short term profit, but it seems that many modern companies don't see it that way.

There are also several red flags concerning the Chinese company looking to acquire Jagex. They're failing (I've heard) and they also have no experience in the video game industry. They're literally a mining company. Those are setting off alarm bells for me.

It is bad because:

1- The company buying Jagex is not from the games industry but from a completely different domain, they will not understand or make the best of business decisions.

2- The company buying Jagex has had troubles keeping up with their revenues and finances. It is covered in an article by Financial Times about this acquisition. They are looking for other businesses having stable revenue to fill their losses, which essentially means they are looking for cash cows.

3- IF Jagex or IVP had positive outlook for their game development business in its current state, they would NOT have sold or agreed to the deal keeping in mind points 1 and 2.
